New England Weekend Advice

We will be picking up our brand spankin' new 27FB Flying Cloud next month, and are planning long weekend trips throughout the summer while we get acquainted with it. We live in CT are are hoping to hit each of the New England States. So far I have weekends booked in CT, VT, MA, and an extended stay in ME. I am looking for recommendations of places to stay/things to do in RI and NH. We are first time campers, and it will be just the two of us and our bloodhound, Daisy. Have you been to a great campground or can you recommend a must-see place in either NH or RI? We anticipate using the campground a home base and exploring the area during the day.

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard....

We spent a weekend at Mystic Seaport with our Safari years ago. DW insists this was the CG., my grey cells can't confirm, but I won't bet against it.

We'll be in New Bedford this coming weekend for a visit with old friends and a concert at Zeiterion Theater.

So when is this..."old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

For NH, we stayed at what I recall being a national park campground (boon docking) that was in the White Mountains, not too far from Rt93 and close to the western end of the Kancamagus Highway. You are at a bit of elevation, was really cool (as in nice), on a small lake (Russell Pond), and very short drive to the K Hwy, which if you know the area is fabulous.

Welcome to Airstream ownership! We live about 30 minutes south of you down Route 91.

Funny, but in the years we've been camping, we haven't made it to RI or NH. Rhode Island has a few state-run beachfront campgrounds that we're trying this spring and summer.

Something to keep in mind - in the fall, even when most state campgrounds have closed, some of the Mass. beachfront state campgrounds, like Salisbury Beach, remain open for weekends. We're going to try and stretch out the season - between Veteran's Day and winterization - this year.

Enjoy the new trailer!

Before: Argosy Minuet and T@B, towed by various Honda Odysseys
