We have sold our Airstream planning to downsize to a Basecamp for easier travel, setup and storage. I wish the reports were better. No hurry, we'll take a the Nest as well although we sure like the security of sleeping inside a frame and riveted metal travel trailer when the weather gets really rough during the night. I've seen fiberglass trailers in accidents, the shell tends to get scattered.

Two things-

Where Oliver is mentioned, the family has hinted, at their own rally, there may be a larger unit coming.

On Airstream doing a larger unit, this to me would seem quite eventual. Where Oliver does a double hull, lotsa weight, the Nest is a single hull design and would be a lot easier to extend. This would be especially the case where people are looking for a separate bedroom as a three section trailer could use the interior walls to support the shape, then they could do a front or rear bath and bedroom.

I'd like to see a little larger unit with double axels. Nice looking. Awaiting views of interior.

Aistream does not build its current Mercedes based vans all they do is fit them out. They also have steel bodies. Guess they should also not be called AIRSTREAM's.

Hi

I think selling it through the existing dealer network is the main issue. Call it Nest (Airstream) rather than Nest (Thor) and it's much easier to put on an Airstream dealer's lot. Just like the Interstate's, not all dealers will have the same inventory of this and that.

Yep. Also, for folks that have spent some time in a fiberglass 'egg', they're really more similar to Airstreams than any other trailer. They use many of the same parts and have similar shape and towing characteristics. I learned to work with rivets by ownin eggs. Eggs tend to have a vintage feel like Airstream. The fiberglass community also shares the Airstream dislike of SOB trailers, makin a visit to an Airstream lot easier to swallow for those folks than a visit to a Thor lot would be.

When I decided to replace my eggs with a bigger trailer, Airstream made the most sense for somethin that would still have the same feel.

BUT......

If they came up with the right floorplan, I'd probly sell the airstream. Just sayin...

I grabbed your post from the Airstream Sightings thread, in order to reply here, because this may be the commercial you mentioned, and it may open up a new discussion on the Nest IMO:

https://www.ispot.tv/ad/w58e/anoro-go-your-own-way

Nice Fleetwood Mac song!

Here is a screen capture of that trailer, which looks like it may have a pop-up roof for standing headroom inside. The man on the left could probably not stand up inside as-is. Not an AS Nest, in my opinion, but in the video it sure did look like one, especially the color. [Edit -- If you pause the video at time stamp 0:44, it looks like the roof is popped up about 8-10" IMO, just barely visible above the deployed awning.]

Thanks for the heads up!

Does anyone recognize this small trailer? Thanks.

Peter

Thanks Grant, pretty slick! Have you ever been inside one?

I see they are related to the Hymer RV line. A recent thread about Hymer buying Roadtrek in Canada:

PR re Hymer and RT at Florida RV show: http://www.gohymer.com/2017/01/17/1137/

Are any ERIBA models sold in Canada?

Thanks,

Peter

I think I saw one at the Toronto RV show back in the winter. I was paying more attention to the Airstreams. I found the information identifying the trailer in the Anora commercial on another RV thread. I had heard that Roadtrek had been sold, but didn't realize it was to Hymer.

In the new issue of Airstream Life there is an interesting article on the “Nest by Airstream”. Some very interesting updates are coming out. Apparently the to be soon released finished product is going to be quite different from the prototype in almost every way. Same basic shape but a bit larger and more completely outfitted. Also interesting is the new projected price point. Now at $40K. This alone is making the Oliver a more attractive alternative in my opinion.

Hi

Looking at the pictures in the magazine, the "real" Nest is much lower to the ground than the Oliver. They are aiming at a different market ....

Does Oliver use leaf springs? I found in the RV world, slides and leaf springs force the designers to keep the frame high.

Nest by Airstream

Oliver is higher off the ground than AS by design. It’s intended for boondocking. BTW, Oliver will lift your trailer further, if you custom order. Lastly, a well-equipped Oliver Elite II (the larger model)will cost you closer to $60k.

Hi

They seem to do a number of things that get them well up in the air compared to an AS design. That's great for dips and bumps. It may not be quite so great for stability. Just like everything in real life, it's a tradeoff.
