I just completed a week's trip down to NE Alabama yesterday. Diesel fuel was pretty much the same price as when I left last Tues. I did see a gas pumps empty, but no dlesel pumps were closed.

Page and I are heading West for 60 days this Sunday (stopping first at JC). I'll be cautious but am expecting no trouble.

By the way - if the price is able to float during times of tight supply (real or feared), there will be no shortages. And the threat of prosecution does not help incent anyone to bring in extra supplies to areas suffering from real shortage.

Prices in Augusta, GA are stabilizing. Still some stations without gas, but they are less common. Diesel Fuel today (last week) - $4.03 ($3.92). Gasoline - $3.89 ($3.38).

Supply, demand, and market price seem to find equilibrium...when folks aren't pushing the panic button.

There are more stations out of gas this weekend than last weekend northeast of Atlanta. We passed several stations with no fuel and several more with only 1 flavor.

We filled up for the week this time rather than putting 2 days worth in the car. Prices about the same this weekend as last weekend.

I thought I would bump this thread to the top for any travelers planning to head through Atlanta or North Georgia.

90+% of Atlanta gas stations have no gasoline today. This is my unscientific survey from our errands today. We passed over 30 gas stations, of which 3 had gas. These 3 stations had extremely long lines, one of which backed down the off-ramp of I-75. Diesel is more plentiful but you have to search.

From what our news outlets are reporting, the current limited supply of gasoline essentially covers the entire northern half of Georgia.

I hope this helps, and I hope this is the peak point for the current situation.

Thank you for the update. I just changed my plans. I'm not going through Atlanta or to Asheville. I'll just go to a state park north of Birmingham, and
then to Elkmont in the Smoky Mts NP, and then to the WBCCI National Storytelling Festival Rally in Gray, TN. We're leaving in the morning. Maybe OnStar can keep me posted.

For a little more clarity on how unusual it is here now...

Last night, we watched Alabama bury UGA 'tween the hedges and then on the way home at 11:30pm saw a QT truck arriving at a station to resupply.

I figured that supply would last till 5am today, but it didn't. People at the station were just parked at the pumps, waiting for the next resupply.

Just returned from the Swiss Rally in SugarCreek OH, traveled through Ohio, WV and VA, mostly I77, I64 and I81....gas was available everywhere, large variances in price, saw regular at $3.49 on I81 last night, unfortunately I had just filled up at a truck stop in Lexington Va at $3.89, no more than 20 miles north I would have paid 40 cents per gallon less, hard to understand why...anyway, there seems to be gas available on the 1100 miles we just travelled...

In Augusta, GA there is gas at 70% of stations. Mostly small or local shops are out. Chains are good. Regular is at $3.89 and the lines are short. Lines Thursday and Friday were quite long; guess everyone topped off then.

The fuel supply around Chattanooga didn't seem to be a big issue until last week. Prices are stable at $3.79 in N GA to $3.89 in SE TN. There is no premium or mid grade to be found. Some outlying counties report no fuel whatsoever.

About 75% of the area stations have no gas. You can find gas if you look hard enough, but don't let the tank get too low. I've heard we have at least another two weeks of short supply.

On the news this AM, the pipeline that serves North Georiga and SE Tennnessee has reopened. Supplies should be back to normal in a matter of days.
