Ditto, should be required reading for anyone visiting Oregon and Washington. Crummy movie, but what a book! (It's not just about weather, by the way.)

Eric, No thunder or lightning, just a steady gusty wind that makes the rain seem like it comes from all directions. The gloom is sometimes overwheleming for people. Being 200' up on a bluff in Neah Bay and seeing the storms blow in is quite an experience though. It's a good place to have a good book, some hot coffee and maybe some Baileys. It gets dark at about 4:00 PM and sometimes you don't even notice. See the beaches at Kalaloch. Ruby Beach with the sea stacks and driftwood piles is magnificent.

You may be able to stay on reservation land pretty cheap. They get over 100 inches of rain a year on the average so it does get depressing, but if you travel over to Sequim by Port Angeles they only get about 30 inches because they are in the Olympic Mountains rain shadow.
It's a beautiful, rugged area. Read Ken Kesey's "Sometimes a Great Notion". His description of wet winter living in the area is the best I have ever read.

I used to go out the logging roads by forks and hike out some trials to the coast there. I haven't been there for probably 10 years. I'm sure it's not the same.

Hi, Gene. I already have gloves, hats, a rain coat, a poncho, and a full-on rain suit. [no tire chains]

I was blessed to meet this man and stayed at his "cottage" at Shi-Shi beach on the northwest WA coast for two months one winter. What a time that was! His poetry captures our "mossback" upbringing.

Purman, Forks hasn't changed much. For a few years they had a tourist frenzy because of the Twilight books but thats died down now. I'm sure there is still lots of good hiking
Mike, In the 70's my brother and I hiked from Ruby Beach in Kalaloch all the way down to Moclips. It was an entirely coastal hike and took much longer than we anticipated. It was all through Tribal reservation land and we had permission. What a beautiful unspoiled place that part of the Washington coast is. We ate butter clams, razor clams, geoducks, oysters, mussels. I know I couldn't do it now.

Gene, my wife suffers from the same affliction; I'm hoping to find professional counseling for her - will let you know how that works out.

We also have a friend who would be in need of this counseling. Perhaps we could send Gene, my friend, and your wife to the same counseling service and get a discount??????
Mind you, with tornado warnings on our Prairies, huge windstorms this past week in BC and AB, maybe we could instead put them all to work.....

I don't need counseling; all of you do! Except for Barry's friend and Brad's wife. Load up the gear, we're going to look for tornados, hurricanes and volcanos.

Hi, and while you are doing that, I'll be on the West Coast looking for Earth Quakes.

They are sure easy to feel; I was in the big one up here a few years ago, standing on the ground with a client and I thought I was having a heart attack. I rushed back to our campsite to see how the wife was doing.
Since we sit on air, she never even noticed!

Ummm, maybe I should take up storm watching????
I don't do well with counseling - heck, just putting bucket seats in the car was a real chore leat alone a , oh wait, I get it, you mean that kind of counseling. I'd drive them nuts and next thing you know they'd be out storm chasing with a bunch of other, oops, I mean with some fine folks, and my buddy.

I could use some counseing. If it's free. I was in the big one up here about 20 years ago building a tower for Swedish Hospital. Cement was being poured that day on some decking. We were about 15 floors up and everything was magnified. I had to check my tighty whities.
