Last year on our way south we stayed one night at the Navy Sub base at Kings Bay, just off 95 at the extreme south end. Nice place to stay if you have access to military facilities.

I've never heard anybody say: "Dang, I wish I hadn't drained that water!"

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

Three years ago in early December, while near the Florida/Georgia state line, we decided to stay in a motel one night when we traveled late one evening. It got down into the mid 20's. The trailer froze up since I did not run the furnace over night. Next evening when we arrived at our site in Florida we had a frozen/burst copper water line inside the kitchen cabinet. I wish I had left the furnace running then! I do now, both on the road or parked, if it is below freezing, unless I have winterized with antifreeze!

Fortunately we are not anywhere near freezing anytime soon.

I had never thought about leaving the furnace on during travel. Nice to know that others do it and it's safe. Allow's a little more flexibiltiy for travel in colder times.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you generally drive streight through or stop over somewhere?
We came from KC not the northeast. When we drove out here last year at Christmas time we stopped overnight somewhere, can't remember. We did not unwinterize until we stopped and were sure it was not going to freeze overnight. Better safe than sorry.
