Thumbs down Natchez Trace

Planning to drive the Natchez Trace pulling 23' International. Camping suggestions?

That will depend on how many legs of the trip you want to make. End-to-end is only 444 miles, so you can do it in a two-day trip. Or a 3-day trip. Or a 4-day trip. Or whatever, depending on how many things you want to see along the way.

Here's a link to a list of campgrounds along the Trace, from the National Park Service's Natchez Trace web page.
http://www.nps.gov/natr/planyourvisi...&pageid=365269

If I was planning the trip (which I am, for my first post-retirement year) I'd stay at the various state parks along the way, and use them as hubs for exploring the other attractions. I'll actually do the Trace in both directions, checking out attractions on the east side driving up, and on the west side driving back.

Have to ask… Why the "thumbs down" symbol by the title of your post? The Natchez Trace doesn't deserve a thumbs down.

Are you boondocking/dry camping/have a generator?
If so, Jeff Busby is a nice primitive campground in Choctaw county, Mississippi.

There are other Forest Service and State Parks with electricity and water really close to the Trace that are really nice.
Choctaw Lake at Ackerman, MS and Lake Tiak O'Khata in Choctaw county are really nice. There is also Legion Lake.

There is no shortage of beautiful state parks along the Trace. We drove it from Mathiston to Iuka yesterday. Very scenic, stress-free driving at 50 mph and saving gas at 1,300 rpm-

We're planning to do the entire Trace in 2 weeks. We'll start in Nashville and stop in Natchez on our way to Gulf Shores. We'll hit Natchez during their Pilgrimage Days and tour some of their mansions open during this time. There is tons of information on the Trace and Natchez on the net. Flash your lights if you pass us!

You will enjoy it.
I've never traveled all of it, and I live in Mississippi-
I have traveled the Trace from Mathiston, MS to Nashville. I've only traveled bits and pieces of it south of Mathiston.

We traveled most of it this summer. It is a lovely drive. We hopped off when we got near Vicksburg. Unfortunately the old mansions were no longer open for tours when we visited. Very dissapointing.

We enjoyed it immensely last fall, what a pleasant drive and plenty of history along the way. Vicksburg, fabulous.

I've traveled it full distance several times, it's very relaxing and passes near quite a few really nice areas.

We enjoy camping at Rocky Springs in the cool parts of the year. If you are in the Jackson/Vicksburg area holler!
