N.J. trailer tags

A heads-up to N.J. Streamers (and any others towing). last week while heading North in Alabama, I was pulled over by the Highway Patrol. Why? Several years ago N.J. stopped sending out the little year stickers for the tag corners. This made it appear my registration was expired. No summons, but a 20 minute waste of time. Sal

The best part. I had to go sit in his car but after almost 3,000,000 miles as an OTR truck driver this was the first time I was ever frisked. I guess at 71 I look like some kind of desperado. Or maybe its the vowel at the end of my name? Sal

In my way of thinking, that was a very alert and aware Trooper. An improper tag could well signal a stolen trailer.

They don't send new tags when you renew, but the troopers don't check the database to see if you're current first instead of detaining you? Sounds like a hole in their process.

I agree the trooper was alert. But I gave him a current registration card. This should have been enough to prove I was legal. He also checked the truck registration against the VIN. Does this warrant a pat down? Sal

I told her what you asked, and she said unfortunately, no he didn't.
