Having a design that allows wood to come into direct contact with a horizontal flat piece of external metal is a bad design flaw. Not sealing that contact area is a warrenty issue that should not have a terminal date as it was not properly done when built. That pathway for water will always exist, any gasket and sealant applied will eventually fail and the damage will occur again.
I agree on the statement the seam/gasket will eventually fail...then again so do brakes on a car, a battery e.t.c......it will require me to maintain a schedule to keep it in order. Like pretty much everything in life.
Everything will wear out and fail eventually.Only I can prevent bigger problems by proper maintance.
