Mtn Bike Weekend Airstream Ambassador
I hitched up and headed down to Buffalo Creek in the Pike National Forest for a couple days of Mtn Biking and ended up showing off the Bambi.
This was my first experience with people wanting to tour the Stream. There were over 50 on hand and I had all the campers at the Memorial Day Mtn Bike Rendevous, at one time or another, touring though the Bambi. Not one disappointed tourist. AS owes me stickers for my TV for the publicity.
In any case, I really enjoyed being an AS ambassador to the SOBs and tenters.

Glad to see another cyclist amongst the 'streamers. Can't beat hauling bikes around the country and camping.
I am running a Blur LT (yes, it is red...) with XO and a older Merlin/Campy for the skinny tire fix.
Spent a month on the road last year out west, including Wyoming and Moab. Didn't get to ride though since I was recovering from a broken leg from a downhill crash......

There are a bunch of MTB riders on these Forums. I'm headed to Hood River, OR in a few days for a couple months of seriously needed R & R, including some heavy use on my Giant Trance X0. Love the bike.
Also planning a couple of days in Moab on the way.
Keep the rubber side down!

Selling 1996 GT RTS-2 like new!
Hello WyoRacerX and you hard-core MTB fans!
Great looking rig!
THIS thread is fortuitous! I have a nearly-new 1996 GT RTS-2 20" frame with Noleen and RockShox full-suspension mountain bike that I'm about to sell. I bought it brand new in 1997 when I was 42, and have put probably less than 25 miles on it, and that all on-street. The only part that isn't stock is the stem, and I put a taller one on it. I can't remember now if the bike shop did it, or I did, but I can't find the original stem. I do have the original owners manual!
At 53 I don't do ANY off-road any more. I just built a 1998 frame Trek Millenia HT into a touring bike with all '02 vintage XT parts, trekking bars and <gasp> road slicks!
Anyway, I just don't have any need to have a near top end XT/LX mountain bike any more... so if you have any friends interested in a vintage ride, let me know. It's never been crashed, has always been stored inside on a rack, and has never been opened up for anything. It's nearly new-old-stock quality, with a few minor surface scratches and a little dust from hanging around and moving a couple of times over the years. I bought it because it was the first full-suspension bike that didn't pogo when you got up in the pedals. It's pretty cool as the design locks up the rear suspension for pedalling, but allows it to work on bumps. I have NO idea how it does it, but it really works. Everything else from that period felt like there was a hinge in the middle ('course there WAS, but you didn't want to feel it while pedalling!)
So... if you or anyone you know has any interest, let me know and I'll be happy to photograph it and email photos out or something. The MSRP was $1699 new, and may be the last new-old-stock quality RTS-2 left in the world. They are so rare that Bikepedia doesn't even have a photo of it! I'd post a stock photo, but I can't find one, and I haven't taken photos of mine yet. I'm going to ask $600 for it, but I'll entertain reasonable offers. I thought I'd offer it here before I put it out on Craigslist. If there's any interest here at all, I'll get mine photographed and at least a picture posted in this thread so you know what it is. Let me know...
You can PM me here or call me at (563)886-1482.

My 3 fave things!
An Airstream, and dog and a bike. awesome! I also have 19' Bambi. I always take my dogs, and of course, my Ti cyclo-cross bike. It's a huge part of the way I stream.
happy trails!

I like your set-up. Mountain biking was one of the main reasons I initially got hooked on airstreaming. I figure if I've got a comfortable place to spend the night I might ride a bit longer the next day. Nothing wrong with tents but it's very hot in this part of the country this time of year. BTW there are lot of competitions and biking gatherings around here like the one you describe. I'm really looking forward to getting my trailer back together for camping and biking. I'm also glad to hear there are other mountain bikers on the forum!

Yho guys, we are into it too.
Both me and my gal are pushing 60 but ride almost every day for fun or training for the many races we do every year.
Where our Airstream goes, so do the bikes. There are 7 bikes in the garage for a variety of different rides.

We saw your rig last weekend in the Bicycle Station parking lot as we cycled by on the Greenway. Great looking unit!

So, what's 45? I don't want to go through my 20's again, my lungs and liver couldn't stand that abuse!

I'm 58 and have slowly shifted (pun) from mountain bikes to road bikes. But I still ride a 10-year old Trek MTB when I feel young and foolish. Wife and I usually take a townie, the Trek, and the Felt road machine on our trips. I can't imagine going on an Airstream road trip without bikes. Biking in Louisiana has its own pucker factor, snakes, dead possums, drunk drivers, and hurricanes.

Whenever we are out in the Airstream it's at least one mountain bike for me,fly fishing stuff for my wife and a couple of dogs.
I ride a Merlin hard-tail or an S-Works Epic.
I'm 57 and ride off road most of the time.

Wow! I love that S-Works. I've got an earlier model S-Work which I really like. Never seen one in black though!

OK,
In the spirit of 'I'll show me mine if you show me yours' Since you showed yours.....here's mine: Here a couple of shots of my Giant Trance X0.
Please note the finish details in the second shot: The shiny top area very closely matches the finish on my 19CCD, and the lower portion of the frame is ball-burnished for a matt look.
Weighs in at 24.7 lbs with full XTR. No upgrades.....yet!

Ok, Lew... when you have a bike completely spec'd with XTR, what... exactly, would you upgrade TO?
Nice bike!

Thanks,
A couple of years ago, I would have added lighter carbon bars and seat post, tubeless rims and tires, and what ever other farkels the shop had available. I really like this one right out of the box, so I just might go the carbon bar route and skip the rest. It's already pretty light and reducing weight from here gets mighty expensive!!!
