Moving to Montgomery.....

I will be teaching at Auburn University-Montgomery this year, so what I need is the scoop on things to see/do within a couple hrs of town. I would also love to hear about the coast, is there beach camping to be had? Thanks!

Camping around Pensacola?

Does anyone have experience with the beach parks in the Pensacola area? I was thinking of going over that way for Christmas and New Years rather than making the trek to Padre this year. Many thanks.

Rodney,

Sorry you won't be spending you winters here with us in VA. Hope you have been enjoying your time off since the boondock rally in Massies Mill.

The good thing is, if you decide to fulltime in the trailer it will be a whole lot warmer down there than up here!

Enjoy,

Hey Rodney,

The beach camping around Destin is great, according to several good AS friends who go there a lot. While camping in N. Georgia last week, Rachel and I were talking about making a trip to the area during Christmas time. Florida has several state parks on the beach in the panhandle area. The Emerald Coast, as it is called, has some of the finest beaches in the world and the area is not far from Montgomery.

There are quite a few places to camp although I wouldn't classify them as 'Beach Camping" since they are off the beach in most cases. There is a WBCCI campground north of Pensacola and they do allow guests.

We enjoy Ft Pickens and Big Lagoon in FL and plan on hitting the Campground on the western tip of Dauphin Island AL.

Top Sail is super nice, kinda pricy and a pretty good walk to the beach.

Post your travels!

Rodney,

Some of the best Florida State Park campgrounds are due south of Montgomery at the southern terminus of US 331. It's about 175 miles from Montgomery to the Beach.

Top Sail State State Park in Santa Rosa Beach is a great campground with full hook-ups including cable TV (it used to be a commercial CG years ago). The sites in the back section are quite secluded. The park is on the ocean, but the beach is about a half mile hike from the campground.

Grayton Beach State Park Campground in Grayton Beach is also a great location. The park is directly on the ocean. The beach is absolutely pristine. It is also directly on Western Lake (one of the natural Dune Lakes). The kayaking on the lake is exceptional. They have both full hook-ups on the lake and water/electric sites that are more secluded and closer to the beach.

When you get down this way, give me a call.

Thanks for the information- Grayton Beach State Park sounds like a real possibility. If I am going to Fl this winter I want to get reservations fairly soon.

Enjoy,
I don't know how good it is that it's warmer. It's 101 here today, if it was any warmer you'd have to spray me with suntan oil and flip me over to male sure I was fully cooked on both sides.

We have been full timing in Magnolia Springs,Al for 6 years now and Alabama is wonderful. The Gulf Shores State Park is wonderful and close more or less to the beach. Yes June July and August are killers, but we are just returning from MN,Ar, and OK and it was so hot there we thought we were in Alabama,
