Moving: Texas to Spokane Washington..yellowstone

Anyone travel from Texas to Yellowstone then north to washington state? Spokane to be specific. I'm a little worried about the clearance and turns traveling through Yellowstone.

Around the first of august,...I'm moving, my first trip is pulling a 25' enclosed hallmark trailer, with all our belongings then back home(empty) in a week. Then around the first of September im towing the airstream, my wife will drive her car and my son a uhaul.

So please any advice would be appreciated.

Shane

Shane, thousands of people go to and through Yellowstone every year with their RV's. I know I didn't have any trouble the last time I went through, but that was 35 years ago, with a much smaller RV than you have.

I went thru Yellowstone in the summer of '10 pulling a 25 footer and the only problem was the traffic. Every time there's an animal beside the road, it causes a traffic jam.

Roads are roads. I pulled my 32', even stopped along the side of the road for pics when able. Don't worry, enjoy.

When I tow my trailer through Yellowstone, I try to hit the road as early as possible to avoid the traffic. There are nice campgrounds near the South, East & West entrances that would help in being rested & getting an early start.

I don't know exactly where the road goes through. I'm learning.

Thanks,

IMO I would avoid Yellowstone unless you want to be doing some sight seeing. I would think the traffic would slow you down. On the other hand...there might not be as much traffic in September and the trees might be pretty.
Good luck with the move. I have some friends that are moving from Salem Oregon to Texas next month. Does not sound like a fun move to me at all.

Shane, we drove from Spokane to the Balloon Festival by way of Yellowstone last fall. I don't remember any problems. It does get a little tight inside the park in a few places but just take your time and you will be fine.

We have had a beautiful summer in Spokane this year. Mid 80s all next week, rivers running high and lakes full. Of course you will have to get a snow shovel if you stay very long.

Shane, just take US-287 the entire way into central Montana. Turn left on IH-90.

I plan to amble over to Port Arthur, TX (the road terminus) and dip a foot in the Sabine River Bay and never look back once I'm ready to get out of here.

For my own purposes (and because I like the idea) I plan to cover the entire route as marked. It can also (in a road split in Montana and road number change) be the road to Alaska (another lifelong dream).

I remember the US-287 Association from quite a few years ago . . one of the tidbits of a father in advertising/public relations explaining a bit of how the world works (and as a Denver native, familiar with the road from childhood).

Spokane is more than a bit chilly in spring & fall. The ex and I investigated it along with Boise five years back as new places to live. You'll love Couer D'Alene as it's just a few miles away. The lake is spectacular. Plenty of great drives within a few hundred miles of Spokane, unlike Texas where every place worth going six months of the year is 700-1,000-miles away.

Good luck.

Yellowstone NP is loaded with Class A motorhomes and monster 5th wheels. A 25-foot trailer should cause no problems. We drove through Yellowstone last September and it was surprisingly busy, even though a lot of other attractions in the region seemed to have emptied out. If you've never been through Yellowstone, it is well worth a visit, but then you'll be within striking distance from Spokane if that is your future home.

To our way of thinking, Denver traffic is likely to be more of a headache than Yellowstone.

Spokane is surrounded by some wonderful outdoor amenities. I agree about Coeur d'Alene! You won't be too far to visit Glacier NP, with lesser-known but fun (to us) places including Priest Lake and Sadnpoint ID, as well as the Kootenay region of British Columbia.

We've had our Bambi serviced at Airstream of Spokane several times, and have found them helpful and easy to deal with.

Best wishes for your move!

It was a good idea getting your leaks fixed before you moved to Washington!

Thanks carl, I believe they are, though. Btw, not moving to Seattle. Which has avg. 47" rain compared to spokane's 17" avg a year.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

Well Shane the Rangers are gonna finally win the series and you'll miss it. The Cowgals are gonna finish dead last and you're gonna miss that wonderful happening too.

But before you go get yourselves over to David's BBQ in Pantego (Park Row) and give me a honest report on what you think of the BBQ & fixins there. Used to be the best in North Texas..IMHO.

Keep us posted on the move the drive and all the rest.
Happy trails.

The KOA in Billings is the first one of the chain and is very nice if you happen to be there when you need a place to stay.

The hill as you approach Butte is a long grade but the remaining passes in Montana are not so bad. You will see lots of beautiful country. Watch for all the antelope in Wyoming.

Spokane isn't so bad either. Hmmm, we don't have any BBQ to speak of although there are some new wanna be places popping up. Our politics are similar to Texas, unless you are from Austin, and you will have to put up with the Mariners (or not). We have 4 seasons and rain is not a big problem. When it does rain, it isn't during a hurricane or tornado. You can entertain outside without getting eaten by bugs, you can sleep in the ground and not worry about chiggers and if that volcano didn't blow, this place would be close to perfect.

OH, and Washington has it all. We have deserts, rain forests, sandy ocean beaches (cold water though), Puget Sound tide pools, the densely forested coastal range, arid high mountain forests of central and eastern Washington, farm land for miles, wheat fields and tons of wineries. Yeah, not a bad place and it is not all privately owned either. You can still camp for free many places if you know where to look.
