More cowbell ?

I have a fever and the only prescription is....... more cowbell ?
No not really it is in fact more beaches. I always relied on Dr Beach Dr. Beach:Â* America's Foremost Beach Expert. for his prescriptions of beaches and now I am curious to know what do you consider to be the best beaches in the US and why. East coast, west coast, Hawaii or Alaska ( there must be beaches in Alaska ) what are you looking for in a beach and where have you found that special beach where everything was just perfect.

Papa Smurf, great threat but your title might be a little misleading to those of us just cruising the forum, hence maybe the lack of responses.

One of my favorite is actually several in a place with many great beaches but this one is not fully accessible any more.

Used to be able to walk from Monterey Bay Wharf north past Marina. The section under the old Fort Ord Officers Club, Stillman Hall, is on a eroding surf area.

Beautiful bay.

Here's my most surprising beach.

Shoshone Lake in Yellowstone National Park.

Not accessible from the road. It's a lovely hike of about 1 ½ hours through woods and meadow to the lake.

Once you arrive you are reminded that Yellowstone is in the caldera of a volcano.

Because just like the beach in Hana, Hawaii, there is beautiful black sand.

When we were there we met a nice young couple from Germany on vacation. They were backpacking for 4 days and camping around the lake.
