Mobile tunnel

the wife and will be heading to LA the end of April, which takes us through Mobile, AL and its tunnel. I have been through it before and kind of remember signs requiring the prop to be turned off. So, first question: is that the case ? I know the last time I went through in '018, I did not turn off the prop, but I feel more compelled to follow the law this time, if it is required. Are there places to stop both East and West bound to stop to turn off the prop ?
I don't remember a place to stop East bound. I just remember seeing the sign and not seeing any place to pull off to the side. I remember nothing of west bound !

No place to stop and no signs on either tunnel to shut off propane. If you are concerned, follow the haz material signs and cross the bridge on the north side of town.

We have been through the Mobile Downtown Tunnel many times and have not taken any extraordinary precautions.

I live in Mobile. No requirement to turn off propane for any of the tunnels. Traffic should not be too bad at end of April compared to the summer season when weekend traffic is a crawl but note that an Airstream can also fit through the old tunnel (Bankhead) on Highway 90 if there is any problem with the interstate tunnels.

Tell me again why do I worry about a couple propane tanks and not the thousands of gallons of gasoline going through these tunnels?

Well, what if my vehicle runs on propane?

Because if they made everyone shut off their gasoline tanks, only diesel and electric vehicles could use the tunnel!

I've never seen the propane cut-off signs at Mobile. Most recently passed through there in early March. I don't believe there are any.

Now, the Hampton Roads and Chesapeake Bay BT are different matters.

It seems to my memory that when I researched it they were talking about propane trucks carrying it as cargo. Trailer is below capacity limits.

The propane tunnel rule is typically because propane is explosive. Gas wonít necessarily explode in the rare case of a car fire ó thatís usually reserved for Hollywood special effects.
I was under the impression that most tunnels if not all of them require no propane running. Thatís a large running on i10, we just drove right through it with propane on though. In some states itís illegal to drive with propane on (tunnel or not). Still we end up driving with it on... there will never be a mandatory stop where they check your propane, itís always going to be an integrity thing unless you get pulled over for something else and the cop decides to check and enforce.
