There are a lot of camp grounds along the Co. River. You turn east at the N. end of Moab just before you cross the river. Some look to be boondocking sites but about 4 or 5 mi.on down. a nice level camp right on the river. There is a really good spring for wonderful water (fill the jugs) just after you turn east fr. the main Hwy. Be aware Moab can really be hot and I think in April they have a huge off road jeep rallye. Folks camped boondocking everwhere.

Thanks, Pat.
There are many photogenic places in that area.
Mesa Arch at sunrise was up at 4:30, drive 60 miles, hike a mile in the dark, and set up the tripod for sunrise. I shot about 250 shots that morning.
Worth it though, as the photos from that morning have made me several thouand dollars.

Gunny, I just tried to post a long exposition about this area, but it got lost. To see Canyonlands you need to 4WD into some truly amazing places like the Maze and the Needles. You also need to do some hiking. Hard to do, but well worth it. It's worth several trips. It has become very popular and permits are now necessary. We explored all over southern Utah 20 years ago (we spent our honeymoon in the Maze). Get books, get maps, educate yourself.
