Missouri to Montana to Pick her up!

Hi There,

We just got back from our first trip in our 1963 overlander. We drove up to Baker Montana to get her (Charlotte) and then drove down through the black hills on the way home. What a great thing it is to have an Airstream! I'm totally hooked! Anyway, we had a few issues, but made the best of our trip. Check it out here http://www.thekrollfamily.com and click on 'travels'.

If you're ever in the northern black hills near Deadwood and need some work done, contact Ken's Campers. He was awesome and knew some things about airstreams. He really helped us out to make sure our brakes worked and that we were safe on the road.

We are already planning lots more trips and we have lots of questions! We'll be posting those soon. Thanks everyone.

Isn't it great to be surrounded by 'Aluminum'!

Your inaugural voyage appears to have been a great one ... the posting of your travels on your web site was quite entertaining and reminds my of trips with the family as a child.

To this day, I have wonderful memories of camping trips of years-gone-by. Fortunately my Dad took lots of pix & made movies along the way. Apparently you are doing it right!

I can relate to 'Two Kids & a Dog'. In this pix from 1957 in a SP of Calif. I am one of the 'kids' w/my sister, Mom & Dog! The Airstreams of my youth came a little later in life.

Great story! It brought a few tears to my eyes as I remembered some of our best family vacations forty years ago in the Black Hills; Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Rushmore, etc.

On one vacation when my two boys were early elementary age, we’d planned some really neat visits to some of the major sites. What was the favorite of the boys? Some dumb tourist trap called, “The Spooky Well” (a souvenir place with a “wishing well” with a hidden speaker, proprietor watching from inside said dumb things through a microphone). Could have saved all that money, time, and trouble.

We liked to camp at Elk Mountain Camp Ground just a ways from Wind Cave. Sight seeing most of the day, go to the hot springs pool in Hot Springs to get cleaned up, drive the sixteen miles to the tent with kids zonked out in the back seat of the Rambler.

I blinked and my kids were grown. Do what you plan to do with your family and don't procrastinate or time will slip by faster than you think!!

Wish we'd had the Airstream back then.

Awe, you all are so sweet. It is really special for the kids and gives us some non-work time with them. My husband and I both own our businesses so we always have work to do and sometimes it is hard to get out of that mode when we're home.

Your memories are great and thanks for that old picture! Very cool.
