Mesa, AZ Campground Recommendation January '15
My husband and I are looking for a nice, smaller RV campground that allows a one month rental, in January 2015. Any Phoenix folks with any information on places to consider and the ones to avoid? I've been to RVCampground reviews and the reviews are so varied, it's hard to know what to believe! Thanks for any help!

Asmojo what kind of spot are you looking for.
We are local but have stayed at state parks here.
January is a prime time here so a reservation will help. This year we also have Super Bowl, Pro Bowl and the Golf Open so get your reservation early.
Lost Dutchman State Park is close to Mesa and beautiful. If its a actual RV park Mesa is full of them but I could only help by going by a park for you to take a look. Lots of folks on the forum may answer up as they may have wintered here.
Let me know if you need a park looked at or an office visited for questions.
Thanks

Thanks so much! And for the heads up on all the extra events happening in the area! You are kind to offer to look at some sites for us!! Our son just moved to Gilbert in June, so while, ordinarily, we would opt for an away from the city campground, we'd like to be fairly close to him so that we can be available when he has some time off from work. I plan to call a few places today. We prefer to avoid the over 1000 site resorts, but we may find those will be the ones with space for monthly, but not all winter rental. I will gratefully take you up on your kind offer as I try to narrow down my options!

Don't fear the large 55+ rv resorts if you are in that age group. They have the great amenities, security, day and evening activities, with friendliness and sense of community.

Thanks, dkottum! My biggest objection is that the sites are crammed together so tightly, they're packed in like sardines!

If you like large sites, low rates, and don't have to have a pool and all the fancy stuff try Skyline Resort.
Skyline RV Resort Queen Creek Arizona
It is about 25-30 miles from Mesa an Gilbert though, but still an easy drive.

idroba, thanks so much! That looks nice! I just called Twin Palms...a REALLY small, no amenities place, very near our son's home, that may work out for us, but your suggestion looks great!

Since your son is here and he knows your taste he could run by also and take a look.
Twin palms is just east of a good intersection to be centrally located in the east valley. It is very small, looks like maybe 16 spots so that may be good for you. Does look like its right behind a motorcycle repair shop if that is a concern.
Google Earth gives you a good overhead shot of the park and a slice of a street side view. With many of our smaller parks here you may also get full time residents versus winter visitors.
Depending on what your sons cross streets are in Gilbert, Skyline in Queen Creek may not be that far. A 20 to 30 minute drive here in the burbs goes quite fast as it is all built up till you get way out there. We have a good circle of freeways here in the east valley that work well with the exception of rush hour.

Good idea! I also looked at Google earth too. It is a super small park, but that doesn't bother me...we aren't going to AZ for the campground amenities...not likely pool weather in late Dec./Jan anyway!! Thanks for all the info!
