Hi Tanya,

If you're boondocking have you checked the Manchester Beach State Park in Manchester, about 40 minutes away from Fort Bragg?.also Van Damm State Park about 10 minutes from Mendocino..also the Manchester KOA right next to the Manchester Beach State Park

Here's some places you might check out
Redwood Coast Camping
These folks will not only rent you an RV, but they'll tow it to the Fort Bragg/Mendocino coast site you choose, set it up and pick it up when you're ready to leave.
Albion River Campground
RV and tent camping, on-site RV rentals. Rent kayaks or go fishing.
Caspar Beach RV Park
3.5 miles north of the town of Mendocino, this park can accommodate everything from a simple tent to a 50-foot motor home.
Fort Bragg Leisure Time RV Campground
Just east of Fort Bragg on Highway 20, Leisure Time has 57 campsites, 32 with full hookups, 13 with water and electric only, 15 campsites with no hookups and a separate tent area.
Fort Bragg: MacKerricher State Park
Can accommodate motor homes and trailers up to 35 feet long. Three miles north of Fort Bragg.

Thumbs up Fort Bragg

Hello, you are going to one of our favs. Fort Bragg has a wonderfull harbor and its a must that you have the movie Overboard with you as that harbor and area is where the movie was filmed. Forget Casper Beach although its right across the road to the beach the campsites are so close that you can tell what your neighbor is having for dinner. Having done this trip for many years there is only ONE place to stay. Pomo RV park

Pomo RV Park

Here is another clue the best site that we like is spot 44 easy in and out and very secluded with lots of trees no nieghbors here, if not available spots 28,31,32,33,34 are also very nice. In Mendicino on the main street there is a chocolate store that is to die for as they say.

Enjoy your trip

Yes, Mendocino does have a neat chocolate store, especially the white chocolate raspberry bark!.

Try calling Woodside RV Park and "negotiating.."

In 2005 we wandered into Ft. Bragg on Friday afternoon of July 4th weekend with no reservations, and were able to negotiate a spot at Woodside RV Park. Manager was good hearted, and allowed us to camp on lawn next to office, with hose connection and long electrical cord... She let a few other late arrivers in to boondock as well.. It is not glamorous, and front few rows next to Hwy 1 are permanent mobile homes, but it beat spending night on side road hoping sheriff didn't knock on door...

We ended up making friends with owner (full timer in Big Motorhome on his way back to Alaska for summer..) and manager. Lawn shared with VW Camper and two tents and the motorhome... We had great time at World's Largest Salmon BBQ Saturday eve, and generally enjoyed thw eekend there.. Hated Hwy 1 drive from Ft. Bragg to Leggett, but Hwy 20 from Willitts not much better.

Since you say all the campgrounds are full, could you be allowed to boondock in the parking area where the soccer event is being held? Jamie

Thank you everyone for the great input. Codybear has posted a few places that didn't come up on the website I was on, so I'm checking on those. The Manchester KOA has openings, according to their website, so that may work.

Hey Turtle, I think you may know my son's coach, Mark. He mentioned knowing a guy with a new little airstream that surfs. I thought it had to be you. Do you have any info on Mendocino surfing spots? My husband is bound and determined to surf on one of these trips - we have been inland on 4/5 trips. (I'm more determined to find sun )

Thank you for posting site numbers! They were totally booked, but we'll try them on the next trip.

Tanya, If Mark is an ex-Coastie, sign painter/surfer then, yes I know him. Great guy. As for surfing the Mendo coast, I'm not that familiar with it. It's there. Just look for vehicles with racks pulled off the road and give it a look. Good luck on finding a spot for your trailer during the soccer tournament.
