For the last 2 years I have been taking my 19 ft Bambi to this fantastic flyfishing spot in Northern Ca.. I am trying to decide if the 25 ft Safari I plan to get can make the trip. The last 7 miles are dirt and a bit winding. Has anyone ever made this trip? If so what size rig?
Bump. This post will soon be lost to view and has not yet received a response. Maybe with this bump, someone who knows the McCloud will read this request and help Zugbug assess the road and his rig and get to his fabulous flyfishing river. ~G

As I read your post you indicate you have pulled your Bambi there before, what am I missing here? I've been to McCloud before it is a beautiful area for sure. Try taking the train ride for a romantic dinner, then again you may be tired after the 14 mile round trip hike.
Have you also upgraded to a larger TV? you 'll have a good time there no matter what you do. The fishin is pretty good in Dunsimur also.
You might also try contacting "Guy99" who lives not far away, off Interstate 5, and might have some detailed info.. He also has courtesy parking with hookups..

Stayed in an RV Park in Dunsmir that featured a motel also. Each "room" was a railroad car. The campground was a little farther up the road. motel had a nice little resturant also.
The crack up was that the local pizza place (10 miles away) delivered to the campground right to your site!

Have you checked out the other campgrounds in the McCloud area. Rather than towing down to the river, you could park up where it's more flat and paved and then just take your TV to the fishing spots.
Tom Stienstra's "West Coast RV Camping" book lists 4 choices around McCloud: McCloud Dance Country RV Park (122 sites), Fowler's Camp (39 sites), Cattle Camp (27 sites), and Friday's RV Retreat & McCloud Fly Fishing Ranch (30 sites).
You know more than I do about towing an Airstream to Ah Di Na, Since I live in the area I've never taken our Airstream MH down there.
You could call or email Chris Raine at Dunsmuir Rod Company he fishes the McCloud and has an older Airstream Trailer although I don't know if he's ever taken it to Ah Di Na. Welcome to the Dunsmuir Rod Company site
There are also some camping areas (state I think) on the upper river.

Well I got a 23 instead of the 25 and I do plan to take it into Ah Di Na. I will try and contact Chris first. I think the extra 4 feet will be ok getting in its the size of the sites that will make it interesting.

Zugbug,
Drop me a line when you are heading this way. We have six acres on the Upper Sacramento River and the fishing can be very good

Zug----We love the McCloud area and stay at the McCloud Guest House B&B in town on our trips between the eastern sierra and the oregon coast. You are the expert on four more feet of trailer in that campground. Post here after your next trip. We have a 22 footer and I'm interested in your findings. The coffee shop at the McCloud golf course just south of town on the road to the dam is a good spot to eat lunch.
Well I have the trip set for the week of June 10th. I will be taking the 23 foot safari in, not to worried about the road in but only a few of the sites will accomidate the trailer so I hope its not crowded. Looking forward to a few rounds of golf in McCloud and some great flyfishing. Thanks for the offer Guy99.
I'm following this thread with interest. We live in San Luis Obispo and I've always wanted to fish the McCloud River. So, I'm soaking up all the information in hopes of taking our 22' CCD up that way this summer.
