Maryland has done it again

Maryland was not content with their last outrage of charging travel trailers the commercial rates to cross the Potomac River Bridge, the Nice Bridge, at $5.00 per axle they just upped it to $7.20 per axle.

At $36.00 compared to the old rate of $10.00, a few years back, you would think a drug company must have bought the bridge.

I wonder why? The governor reduced the tolls at other places, like the Ft. McHenry tunnel.

We recently stayed in assateague then had plans to come back to nj before returning to Virginia Beach and OBX. Rather than tow the trailer home we stored it out on the eastern shore for $35 a month. We couldn't have even crossed the bridge for that price!

It's common sense really,Ö..if you think about it.

They need money to pay the toll collectors.

The Governor may have learned from New Jersey. You have to pay to leave New Jersey.

Went to the toll rate website for the Nice bridge. I don't see how you get $36.

http://www.mdta.maryland.gov/Toll_Rates/nice_rates.html

What is video rates? Takes a photo of your license plate then mail you a bill?

What am I missing?

I think a video rate is when you use the EZ Pass only lane without an EZ Pass. They photograph your license plant and mail you a bill for the toll. The also charge you a service fee for mailing you the bill.

Does not apply.
The toll schedule says $36.00 for 5 axles.

Maryland has done it again

That's why I'll probably never make it back east. I thought it would be kinda cool to get a personalized license plate for our AS with our WBCCI number. Next thing I know, I'm getting violation notices from NJ and NY E-Z Pass for some scofflaw who had the same number on his license plates (with a tiny letter prefix that they never read).

What a nightmare! They threatened to suspend my driver's license and turned me over to a collection agency. I wrote letters to both state's governors and two very nice people (one from each state) called me and ultimately resolved the issue. Of course, I canceled the plate ASAP (at my expense). The whole process took almost a year.

It's all about money these days.

$7.20 per axle is outrageous! Is it lined with gold bricks?

As far as Cool License Plate go I was driving in New Jersey following a Va. car with this plate.

NO MO NJ

I laughed knowing they had gotten out safely.

I will try to avoid a toll road route if I can and RT 95 is no exception. I've dealt with Philadelphia traffic to avoid the Del-Mem bridge toll. I've found an alternate route that cost's only a few minutes delay to detour around the Delaware toll (RT 95). The northbound Maryland one is a bit longer but still doable. I rarely use this route when towing so it doesn't come up that much. Towing with trailers has become a costly trip these past few years. Looks like the Md toll on Rt. 95 is $24 ( 4 axles) and $48 (5 axles)
