I have searched this forum and googled myself to distraction.
Is there an app that shows elevation profiles/grades AND campgrounds? If not, which app are folks using for elevation/grade information?
We are in our third year with our 25ft FC and looking to go farther afield ...
Mountain Directory looks interesting. It appears to be for specific listed routes.
I use Google Maps and select bicycle instead of vehicle, then it shows elevation profiles. I am usually looking for elevation gain/loss, and not grade.
I also use Google maps to define routes, then save them as KML/KMZ files and display them in Google Earth.
Thank you. The google map elevation profiles in the bike view is kind of small and I was looking for something better.
If I want more detail I tend to use the Google Earth procedure with KMZ files. The challenge is that due to the sampling interval you can see some very short and variable grade figures reported when in reality it might be a more constant grade. Google is good for indicating which routes are more lumpy and which are more constant. If I want to know an average grade over a stretch I end up calculating it.
