Mail Help

We're fixin' to be on the road for about 6 or 7 weeks. I wanted to have our mail stopped and held, but the form from the PO says they wil only hold for 30 days. We are not going to be in a situation where we can have it forwarded, so what's to do? How do ya'll handle it? Tnx

If you need to hold mail for longer than 30 days, you have 2 options.

You can make a temporary Change of Address to a family member or trusted friend, to expire in 7 weeks, or, you would need to request of the Postmaster at the Post Office that serves your delivery address, in writing, that the PM approve a length of longer than 30 days.

Many people opt to do a temp change. Although you can't really think of anything right now, it seems that things pop up that need to be addressed and taken care of while your mail is sitting on a shelf for over a month.

You can rent a PMB (Private Mail Box) from UPS and forward your mail to your PMB until you get back then cancel the mail forward when you get back. That way if you stay longer or shorter no big deal.

does your PO have any boxes available? send it there. it will have less of a chance of getting lost/delayed. when it fills up you'll get a pickyup slip for a bundle. ask if they can turn off the ("RESIDENT") junk mail to the box.

Do you have a trusted neighbor that could collect the mail for you daily and box it up and overnight it to you occasionally? Would be nice to get your mail on the road from time to time. Sure they could sort out the junk mail and only send you what is 'real' mail.
When we are gone, even for a week, we just have our neighbor, who is a trusted friend, just grab the mail and hold it for us until we return and we do the same for them.

Kind of related to when I was in hospital for extended period...I had a friend pickup the mail and leave it in the house. At the end of the week he would send the real mail to me in the hospital and I could deal with the needy stuff...however, it was really my family that dealt with the needy stuff but the mail arrangement worked.
