Maiden Voyage Successful!

We just finished a 2400 mile maiden road trip in our Excella. Excella and big red Dodge TV both performed flawlessly.

I've been trying to make a list of all we learned during our first three week outing. For one thing, we tried to cover too many miles and didn't get to stay anywhere as long as we wanted. However, this trip required that, as we had committed to certain obligations. Next time we will spend a minimum of a week or so in each place (as long as we like it).

When we first got our AS, in January, we were halfway afraid to tow her home. After just new tires, brakes and bearings packed, we've now towed her enough to have new confidence.

The salesman at the dealership assured us she was roadworthy. We doubted that somewhat, but we now know she's up for the challenge of miles and miles. What a wonderfully built creation! We mostly feel sorry for the big other brands and see them swaying around on the road. We went through lots of wind, with Excella barely noticing. We weathered a very severe storm on the gulf coast and took a nap while the wind raged, lightening and thunder boomed impressively (but muffled inside our 'stream) and rain pounded hard.

Moreover, we learned that everything works and we are very, very comfortable in our Excella.

Home tonight, our relatively small house seems huge and I wonder what we are doing with all this stuff!

I'm glad to report we had absolutely no trouble with our rig and have a new appreciation for how an AS tows. The only problem isn't really a problem, but one does have to be careful to not forget the AS is back there. She follows so smoothly and obediently.

Relaxing a bit, but tomorrow will be time to start cleaning (and trying to remove the fine sand) and fixing a few things for the next trip. We didn't wait until we had everything done, and the beauty of making that first long, long trip was that we learned exactly what we want to improve first and what is important to us and what doesn't matter at all.

Happy trails!

Congrats! It sounds like you had a great trip! Now a short drive to Branson MO should be a breeze! We would love to see her there. Any pictures?

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Congratulations on a successful maiden voyage. It sounds like you had a great Airstream adventure. Don't wait until you fix everything, or you will never go anywhere. Go out and enjoy your Airstream every chance you get.

Congratulations on a great trip! I have this fear that after working on our Cruiser rebuild for three years I will pull through an intersection and get T-boned. That wouldn't happen, Nice to hear about how well you Excella performed!
Hope all your trips are as good!
Keep stream-n

Now, that's the secret of happy camping; if we like it, we can stay, otherwise we can seek happiness elsewhere just by hooking up.

Glad to hear of your successful maiden voyage. Many more to come.

Trouble is, we loved it so much that being back home in our unmoving house is rather a drag.

We're planning to make the Branson Rally and then poke around the Ozarks for a while if the weather is warm. I spent 17 years living in the Ozarks. Hate it in winter. But springtime in the Ozarks? I think there's no better place this side of paradise.

I know the feeling! I love the ozarks, pretty place to camp and lots to do or simply hang out by the AS with nothing but nice scenery to look at. Unfortunately I have to work so I can't stay longer but LY we went early and stayed at the old 86 highway campground and it was very quiet and beautiful! We were in site 28 and that whole side was gorgeous! If you click on the site a picture pops up and you ca see your potential view. I highly recommend camping here.

See you in April!
