Lucy's Wyoming Adventure

Well, Lucy fans, it's that time again. Lucy headed out this morning from Santa Rosa beach. it was just barely morning, but we did beat the crack of noon. SuEllyn has to be back at her Dad's in Jacksonville by June 14. So Lucy has over a month to wander the countryside seeking out new adventures. Our main objective is the Bighorn National Forest near Ranchester, Wyoming, where we will pursue the ever elusive Moose. We will visit other places as the wind takes us.

Olivia is back on towing duty with a brand new set of Michelin LT's. We took US 98 to Pensacola, and then cut up to I-10. At Mobile, we hit US 98 to Hattiesburg, and US 49 up to the Jackson area. We are overnighting at the Springridge RV Park in Clinton, Mississippi. It's a good overnight spot. It's right on I-20, and it's about $25 with 5 point hook-ups. Lucy has stayed here several times. It's easy in and out. We didn't even unhook. Lucy is towing well and all systems are working.

Here are a few shots of the girls as the adventure begins.

Whooo hooo. More great adventures. I'll honk my horn at 7:00 am from I-20 as I pass by in the morning...

BTW, as you head west on I-20 and see the sign, near Edwards, that says "Trucks use left lane"...head the warning. The right lane is horrible all the way to the Big Black river - a couple of miles...

We look forward to the reports...

On our own quest for the ever-elusive mooses (meese?), we will pass through the Big Horns June 6 and 7 with reservations at Sibley Lake both of those nights. Keep an eye out for us: our red SUV is a Ford and the Airstream (un-named so far) is a little shorter and narrower than yours.

Larry & Katie,

We plan to be in the Bighorn Nat'l Forest on the on June 6 and 7. Maybe we can meet up at some point. This will be the 4th year in a row that we will hunt Mooses in the Forest. We are very familiar with the Sibley lake Campground. We always camp in Ranchester as our business requires internet access every day. You may need to do a little planning before arriving at Sibley Lake. last year the RV dump station at Burgess Junction did not open until June 14th due to a late ground thaw.

Hey Brian,

Its good to hear that you and SuEllyn are out for a road trip. Sounds like a great destination so please keep those of us who are stuck behind updated on your adventures. Trust that things are well in Santa Rosa Beach.

Lucy got such an early start this morning she hardly knew how to act, We were actually "wheels turning" shortly before 10:00 AM! Will wonder never cease?

We departed to campground in Clinton, Mississippi, and continued our journey west. We did heed the 'trucks use left lane' signs at Edwards. Thanx for the tip. We pretty quickly crossed into Louisiana. The road (I-20) was pretty good, but not great. We made it across the state without incident. We crossed into Texas this afternoon and continued on I-20 to just east of Kilgore where we gave up the Interstate in favor of Texas 31. We continued west through Tyler, Athens, and on to Corsicana, where we picked up Texas 22, and continued on to Hillsboro. It was a scenic drive and the road was good.

We got a campsite at the North Texas Airstream Community. We had not been here before, and had always wanted to see it. It's really pretty cool. It is absolutely immaculate. We are going to spend two nights here. And will provide more information tomorrow.

I see they gave you a concrete spot in front of the club house/office. We stayed in 2008, those spots were just being constructed.
We very much enjoyed our stay there. We look forward to returning next year.
We pulled out our pictures and enjoyed our stay all over again.

We are still at the North Texas Airstream Community tonight. We spent the day touring the historic section of Hillsboro. There is a really significant courthouse for a town this size. There are also several interesting public buildings.

The NTAC was having a pot luck supper tonight, to which were were invited. Gourmet cooks that SuEllyn and I are, we brought brownies from the nearby Wal-Mart. It was a very nice time and we met some interesting people. We ended up sitting at a table with two Past International Presidents of WBCCI, John Shull ('92) and Jim Haddaway ('05), both of whom reside here.

NTAC is a really nice place and an interesting living concept. I've included a few pictures. If you get a chance to visit NTAC, we would highly recommend it. If you are camping here on Tuesday, you will be invited to the pot luck. The folks here are very nice, and make a visitor feel like a celebrity.

They have 24 brand new terraport sites with full hook-ups. They are very nicely done and are unbelievably level.

You have a nice looking outfit!

I've visited and camped in the Ranchester WY area a number of times - I'm a history buff on the Plains Indian wars from 1865 to 1890. Ranchester is in the heart of many significant historical sites if you are interested in that kind of thing - the Bozeman Trail goes right through where you are going, and the Little Big Horn national monument is an easy day trip if you camp in Ranchester or Sheridan.

I wish I was heading there again - this is a perfect time of year to visit that area

This is the 4th year in a row that we we are camping at Ranchester and visiting the Bighorn National Forest. This is the best area that we have found for Moose viewing. This year, we also plan to camp in Buffalo, and explore the southern regions of the Forest.

If you go through Thermopolis on your journey, be sure and stay at the Fountain of Youth RV Campground just north of town- they have their own huge hot springs pool just steps from your rig. Once there, you won't want to leave! Have fun- tim

We decided to lay over for another day in Hillsboro. The weather forecast for the area into central Oklahoma where we were heading called for severe thunderstorms and hail. Lucy doesn't like hail.

We took a ride down to Waco and had lunch at the club (Sam's Club). We took in the sights in West, Texas, north of Waco. There is an 1890 movie house here that still has its original pressed tin marquee.

We hope to head up to Enid, Oklahoma tomorrow.
