Day 26 (Wednesday, may 28, 2008)

Today we were again on the prowl for Mooses. We went back up to Jackman and continued on up to the Canadian Border. We saw lots of Mooses along the way. We ran into a U.S. Border Patrolman in a picnic area who told us where he had just seen a Moose along the highway.

We made our wa back the the Campground in Abbot Village through Rockwood and Greenville. We saw a really neat old Sparten Travel trailer along the way.

Once again, we got back to Lucy after dark.

Moose Tag?

Brian,
Did you sign up for the fall moose hunt here in Maine?
We were selected in NH, one ran through our campsite, but we only got pictures.
Some just want to watch, they are magnificent, but dangerous.
The wife and I argued about a stump in the river until it moved, a moose.
Love the pictures, glad you are enjoying Maine.

Bob-

The only "Moose Hunting" we do is with a camera. A Moose Tag is SuEllyn's cable/wire tag (moosetags.com).

We love to watch them be keep a respectable distance.

Careful now!!! I'm a former Florida Cracker that retired to central Maine - and it sounds to me like you might be hooked! If you get a strange feeling of despair when you cross the I-95 bridge heading south into New Hampshire it's probably too late to do anything about it! As you make return trips, another sensation will intensify each time you cross the I-95 bridge heading north; you'll feel like you've come home! There's no known cure aside from spending as much time here as you can!

Hey Cracker, sometime I'll tell you about my strange little ritual every time we cross that bridge...

See you at Mt Blue?
We'll be there 7/23!

Unfortunately, We have to start heading South tomorrow. We need to be back home to go to a wedding on the 7th. We'll be back, though.

Red face

Day 27 (Thursday, May 29, 2008)

Today is our last day of Moose watching in Maine. We spent the day searching out mooses on the back roads in the Greenville area. We saw a couple and got some pictures of a yearling bull who agreed to pose for us.

We gave Olivia a well-deserved bath after outstanding performance on several hundred miles of dirt roads. We got a final snapshot of Moosehead Lake from the top of Indian Hill.

We also ran across a very unusual business combination on the road to the Campground. It is a combination wrecker service and wedding chappel. The wrecker driver is a Notary Public and can perform weddings cerimonies. The wedding chappel also serves as the wrecker service office and the home of the wrecker driver. How romantic!

Tomorrow morning Lucy hits the road for home. She'll keep you posted.

No, when we come through New York later today, we will be on I-84 Westbound through Newburgh and Middletown. We start cutting West right away as we need to get back home through Birmingham as we live way out in the Panhandle near Pensacola.

Different gas?

Brian,
Have you noticed that Northeastern gas doesn't get as good mileage as southern gas? In April I filled up in Myrtle Beach at a Shell station and drove north. I got 560 miles from that tank and when I got gas in PA, I only got 455 miles out of that tank. 28 gallons each tank, 01 suburban 5.3, 373 rear end.
20 mpg vs. 16.5. Have you kept track on your trip?

that's a much nicer trip. 95 is still a bear, even at $.19 a gallon. happy trails!

I compute the mpg on every tankful. I haven't noticed much of a difference in the Northeasy vs. the South. Where I have noticed a difference is that I seem to get better mpg in the high altitudes out West.

Day 28 (Friday, May 30, 2008)

We got Lucy all packed up and got on the road before 9 AM (that's really early for us). We bid our goodbyes to Maine and started south.

We ran into some construction delays in New York, and it took us 13 hours to cover the 525 miles to Scranton.

We spent last night at the Petro Truck Plaza along I-81 in Avoca, Pennsylvania.

Our cell phone internet service is working again. The cell phone companies in Maine can not transceive data packets.

We getting ready to get on the road again to somewhere in Virginia tonight.
