We finally made it into Baxter State Park today. It's a really neat place. There is minimal trace of man's presence. Parts of the Park are still closed due to the severe winter and flooding.
Here are some shots from the park in between the rain storms.

We were back in Baxter State Park today. We hiked a couple of the shorter trails. In low areas they use split rails to minimize human impact. We had never seen this technique before. We observed a mature Bull Moose feeding at the edge of the water across the lake from us.
On the way back to the CG, stopped by the Millinocket Railroad yard. We found this interesting "Remote Control" Caboose, complete with solar panel. I haven't seen an active duty caboose in a long long time. This one appears to be freshly painted and ready to go. Doea anyone know what the deal is?

I am enjoying the trip vicariously as I did your trip to Yellowstone last year. Looking forward to the day I can post my own pictures of such trips. Thanks for sharing them with us and can't wait to see what the rest of the trip has to offer...at least you haven't had to replace any tires like last year!
So far, so good, with the Maxxis 10 ply's, and it's been 15,000 miles. I'm still thinking thaose those OEM Marathons were from an old batch that had been in the warehouse for several years.

Today we headed up to check out the North end of Baxter. It is really cool also. We had to go up there via State Highways as the Tote Road within the Park is still closed in the middle due winter damage.
In the afternoon we came back down to the South end of Baxter, and hiked out to Sandy Stream Pond. There, we were treated to two young Bull Mooses feeding in the lake. We spent about an hour watching them through binoculars and were able to snap a few pictures when they came to our side of the lake.
Tomorrow morning we will tow Lucy over to the Moosehead Lake Area for further Moosely activities.

We broke camp in Medford and headed over to the Moosehead Lake Area this morning. We got a real nice campsite at Balsam Woods Campground in Abbot, about 20 miles south of Greenville. On the way over here today we noticed sort of an "enchanted forest" in Lagrange. There are a number (about 100) of really old and rusty automobiles and other mechanical devices (including an old wooden railroad box car) strewn over several acres of woods and both sides of State Road 6 right in the town of Lagrange. These vehicles are spread out in an almost artistic pattern. It is posted no trespassing. It was quite an eerie sight. We had to stop and get a few pictures.
Afte we got Lucy settled in, we drove up to Greenville (on the southern tip of Moosehead Lake) and took a look around in the rain. On the way back to the CG, we spotted two young bulls (Mooses) feeding in a bog along the side of SR 15.

We got a bit of a late start this morning. We had several orders of Moose Tags to get out. We did get to mail them from Moosehead Lake though.
Today we toured the west side of Moosehead Lake. It is some really gorgeous scenery. The lake is so expansive and has islands mountains jutting out of the middle of it. We went up through Rockwood and on to Jackman near the Canadian Border.
We got to see a monument to the "Legend of the Flying Moose". It was actually a pretty impressive statue and a neat story.
In Rockwood we saw a sign on a house that said "Airstream Inn". We turned around and went back to take a look, and there was a Vintage Airstream that is being used as a vacation rental unit. The little guy is right on the lake with his own boat dock. He's sporting a 1974 Maine Trailer Tag.
We also had several close up and personal Moose sightings along the way.
