told ya, rt 16 is "moose alley".

Hard to believe that when I was a little kid, going up there every summer, a moose sighting was a very rare thing. they'd been over-hunted...right to the brink. I remember the first time I saw one. It drew quite a crowd. Now, people hardly bat an eyelash.

A few years ago when we were up there w/ my folks, we went out "moose-watching" one night, right on that stretch of road where Cuscuptic CG is, and there were so many, we lost count. We were getting bored with it. . Someone asked, "well, have we had enough yet?", wanting to head back to the camp, and I said, "yeah, ok. I'll turn around at the next moose". Within a couple of seconds of that coming out of my mouth, another one appeard out of the murk. So, we turned around and headed back. sl-o-o-o-o-wly.

Are this pics Ocquossic CG? We were thinking of staying there...can you recommend any site #?

What is the plural of moose anyway?
Moosi?
Moosseses?
Multi Moose?

I knew you would see a lot in that area...

keep on truckin,

Bill

The photos were taken at Cupsuptic Campground on State Road 16 4.5 miles west of Oquossoc, Maine. We were on Site #V (Roman Numberal 5). There is only 15 amp electric service at the site. We had to make sure that everything else was off before we used the microwave.

They had not had a chance to clean up from a rough winter, so things were not looking that great. Our sight looking out over the lake was really nice.

Moose is actually the technically correct plural, although in the Moose World, they use "Mooses".

Day 15 (Sat, May 17, 2008)

We are at Katahdin Shadows Campground in Medway, Maine. We have been here for 3 days now touring the area looking for Moose. We have seen quite a few along the Golden Road between here and Baxter State Park. Baxter was supposed to open on May 15th, but the opening was dedayed due to flooding. Noe the projected opening is May 22nd.

We went up to Moosehead Lake yesterday. Saw only one Moose. We think that we are going to head down to the coast for a few days, and then come back up here to go into Baxter.

Freeport

If you go to Freeport, I would suggest Wolf Neck State Park, run by the University of Maine.
The park is right on the ocean just down the road from LL Bean.
Do not know about reservations but early season is usually open.
Wolf Neck Farm has the choicest beef next door.
We have cross country skied next to the ocean, beautiful views.

Also, nearby is one of my favorite camping locations ... Recompence.

There are three dozen or more camping sites overlooking Casco Bay...breathtaking views...with a special ramp for launching kayaks or canoes.

The State Park at Camden, as mentioned previously, is very nice, and Camden is a great little town. Good yakin in the harba with a nice launching area.

Also should check out;
Welcome to the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Celebrating Transportation History for 30 Years
while in the area...

Keep on posting pics-the rest of us are jealous!

Enjoyed reading about your travels. MAINE is our favorite visiting state.
We prefer Five Island Area (Camden is nearby). AND Tenants Harbor further up the coast (very quite) area.

Anywhere is Maine is beautiful. ENJOY.

Day 17 (Monday. May 19, 2008)

We brought Lucy down to the Maine Coast yesterday. We found a real nice little campground in Orland, near Bucksport. We were able to give Lucy a well deserved bath. She had gotten really dusty and dirty.

We spent the day touring the little towns in the area. We went down to see Searsport and Belfast. It's a really neat area to look around.

Here are a few pictures of the Shady Oaks CG and the town of Belfast.
