Enjoyed reading about your travels. MAINE is our favorite visiting state.
We prefer Five Island Area (Camden is nearby). AND Tenants Harbor further up the coast (very quite) area.
Anywhere is Maine is beautiful. ENJOY.

Day 17 (Monday. May 19, 2008)
We brought Lucy down to the Maine Coast yesterday. We found a real nice little campground in Orland, near Bucksport. We were able to give Lucy a well deserved bath. She had gotten really dusty and dirty.
We spent the day touring the little towns in the area. We went down to see Searsport and Belfast. It's a really neat area to look around.
Here are a few pictures of the Shady Oaks CG and the town of Belfast.

Day 18 (Tuesday, May 20, 2008)
We're still on the Maine Coast. We spent the day and evening touring the nooks and crannies of the coast.
We drove down to Christmas Cove. It's a picturesque lobster fishing village with colorful work boats and very few buildings under 100 years old. From there we drove over to Pemaquid Point. and visited the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. This light has been on duty since 1857.
On the way back to Lucy we stopped for supper at Moody's Diner in Waldoboro. Moody's has been at the same location since 1927, and is still owned and operated by the Moody Family. They have a Motel behind the Restaurant that consists of the little Motor Court cabins. Four of these are original to the site. Moody's flashing neon sign dates to the 1930's, and was taken down and completely restored in 2003.
The food at Moody's was very good and quite reasonable. I had the liver, bacon, and onions with two vegetables and a roll for $6.49. SuEllyn had the lobster roll for $12.00. The atmosphere in the diner was really neat. It is an authentic old time diner.

The Boothbay Harbor area is very picturesque and full of plenty of "nooks and crannies". Great spot for kayaking but be sure to watch the tides as you don't want to be stuck out in the harbor fighting a tide to get back in again!

It's starting to look that way. This water here is still reeeeeeally cold. We're hoping to get Violet (the Kayak) in the water at Moosehead Lake.

Lobster roll
Hey Guys keep those photos comming!!! When you said Lobster roll you made me think of our stop in Wiscasset, ME. Red's Eats We were told of the place by fellow Airstreamers and it was the best Lobster roll on our trip. The fried clams were as good as the Lobster roll. Here is a link.

Sounds like you all are having a great time! Since you are in the Boothbay Harbor area and if you don't mind going out on the ocean, look into taking a day trip out to Monhegan Island. The island is about 12 miles off the coast and home to a beautiful little village full of artists and some beautiful hiking trails. There is a hotel there too. Thanks for documenting your trip. I've been enjoying your posts!

Been to Moody's!
If you do check out Boothbay, you might check out Grays campground, which is on Southport island. good kayaking there, I hear. They're right on the water, too. Maine camping: Boothbay Harbor Region Maine campground

Absolutely gorgeous. That part of Maine has some of the most picturesque scenery in America! Those are some real post card photos you got.

Today is our last day on the Maine central coast. Tomorrow, it's back to the interior and Moose pursuit in Baxter State Park.
Here's a few more shots of the coastal area.

I am enjoying the trip vicariously as I did your trip to Yellowstone last year. Looking forward to the day I can post my own pictures of such trips. Thanks for sharing them with us and can't wait to see what the rest of the trip has to offer...at least you haven't had to replace any tires like last year!

Day 20 (Thursday, May 22, 2008)
We broke camp on the coast and headed back into the interior. We went back to Katahdin Shadows CG in Medway. After we set Lucy up, it started raining pretty hard, so we decided to relax in Lucy for the evening.

Day 21 (Friday, May 23, 2008)
We finally made it into Baxter State Park today. It's a really neat place. There is minimal trace of man's presence. Parts of the Park are still closed due to the severe winter and flooding.
Here are some shots from the park in between the rain storms.

Thanks for the travelogue - sent karma but my system burped or something.
You've moved Maine higher on my trip list.
