Living The Dream

Moosetags,
You are living the dream. Your invitation list is impressive, a veritable who's who in the Airstream world. But, having solitude on the road is important too.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
The photos are giving me a little wanderlust. No chucking my job though, probably would not be able to get another. The kids still need to eat, a lot too.
2 years and 27k miles would give me pause on the tires though. On the road hazards, part of the experience I guess.
We are starting Black Fly season here in Maine. Time to grade the dirt roads as they just thawed out and are still a little soft.
Happy Trails,

Robert,

Yes, we are getting to live the dream. We are so thankful that we were both able to retire while young enough to still want to do stuff, and Airstreaming around this great country is really good stuff.

Everywhere we visit feels like we live there for a short time because we have a home (Lucy) to return to each evening.

As we sit here in Quartzsite, this morning, it is like a giant RV ghost town. We have always wanted to see it, but we didn't want to participate with the cast of thousands. Now we are getting to reside here for a few days. There are probably more RV sites here in this little town than any other place in the world.

AS to my tire adventures, the last set of Maxxis did twice as good as the OEM Marathons. The Marathons got about 15,000 and we had three blow-outs. The Maxxis did much better with one pressure loss at 25,000 miles and two tread separations at 27,000 miles. None of the Maxxis failures were blow-outs. That's why I was happy to be able to find Maxxis 10 plys in this little town, and they all had a recent production date of 3608.

As for the Maine black flys, one year ago today we were at Baxter State Park experiencing these wonderful creatures. We are planning to be Baxter in the late summer of this year. Baxter and vicinity has some of the best Moose watching spots in the country.

Today, we will explore Quartzsite more closely and take a run over to Blythe to look around.

Brian

Exploration of Quartzsite

We spent the day exploring Quartzsite and vicinity.

We drove over to Blythe, California and looked around. We had lunch at the Courtesy Diner in Downtown Blythe. We were joined by a man named Tom who was born in Blythe in 1925. We had a very pleasant time and learned about everything that has happened in Blythe in past 80 years. It was like stepping back in time.

We drove back to Quartzsite and spent several hours exploring this RV town. It is unbelievable that a town of this size can have so many RV sites.

We got a pizza and brought it back to Lucy and started breaking camp so that we can be "wheels up" at a decent time tomorrow morning.

We arrived in San Dimas, California, on Sunday. We got a really nice campsite at East Shore RV Park.

We have spent the last couple of days visiting with my cousin who leves nearby in Covina.

The campground is very nice. We got a great site on top of the hill. Our dinette window overlooks a beautiful lake. Talk about a great view!

We plan to stay here for a few more days.

Let us know when you are planning to be in Baxter. We will be in that area from mid August to mid September. Maybe we can meet somewhere.

Brian,

Yes, East Shore RV Park is a very nice location and the view of the lake and mountains (on a clear day) is wonderful. Wish we had time to come by and say hi, but going to install the back door on the Liner this weekend for a Memorial Day trip.

We have concluded our visit to San Dimas/Covina.

Yesterday morning we hooked-up Lucy and headed down to San Diego. We have set up camp at La Pacifica RV Park. We're about 3 miles north of the border. We will be headed out today to explore San Diego and vicinity.

Here are a few parting shots from LA.

The old TT was in an alley in La Verne. He looks like he may have been a rental unit at some time in the distant past. He had the number 47 painted in the crown on his forehead. It was really neat to see him.

The art deco building is on the main street of Arcadia. It was built in 1932 and was the Arcadia Journal's headquarters. It is really a significant building on a small scale.

The Palm trees are along a residential street in Azusa. To us easterners, this scene signifies Southern California.

We're still out here, hold up just a mile or two from the border. We're still touring the San Diego area.

We've noticed that there is no such thing as a Super Wal-Mart here. A little disappointing as this situation has cut off our supply of our favorite microwave hamburgers. It has also broken our habit of eating chicken strips while we shop.

We did find the neatest RV store in El Cajon. We found and purchased a 22' fiberglass flag pole for Lucy. This will do double duty as a flag pole and high perch for our external wifi card.

We also toured San Diego's Balboa Park. It is quite impressive. Most of the buildings were built in 1915 ans are quite ornate.

No Super WalMarts

The reason for that is simple. Our city council has passed restrictions that seem to cover only Super WalMarts. Costco would also come under the same restrictions (Size of store and selling groceries) however they play ball with the labor unions. Oh, did I fail to mention that the labor unions also own the city council? In other words, the fix is in.

Thanks for the info, Randy. We had kind of figured it was something like that. We have decided that the fix is in everywhere; it's just on different stuff. I guess Super Target is out for the same reasons.

Glad to be back with you. Nice pictures. Hard to believe that something so ornate would have been built in the 20th century. Didn't know we still had that kind of craftsmanship in the early 1900's.

I'd love to see that new flag pole in place. I bought the flag poles and holder from Pol-ez and really like them. But would still like to see your set up.

Well, our San Diego visit has been very nice, but tomorrow morning, Lucy heads out. We're headed up to Oxnard for another visit with cousins.

Today we did did some trailer cleaning and maintenance, and tried out our new flag pole/high altitude wifi card. This is the coolest new RV toy that we've gotten in some time.

The campground had a Memorial Day bar-b-que this afternoon. It was really nice.

McGrath State Beach

If you haven't made reservations...McGrath State Beach campground is nice. It is in Oxnard, on the ocean where the Santa Clara River mouth is. At this time of year you can usually find a spot. (Only problem is that this is Memorial Day weekend.) Good Luck. I have enjoyed your adventure to date. Thanks. Randy
