Moose Tags have a close alien connection. There's a story about the Mooses from Nar (a planet in the Adirolf Star System). The story can be found on the secondary page under the Moose Tales tab on moosetags.com.

We have finally moved on from Roswell, headed west. We made a couple of stops at a pistachio ranch in Alanogordo and at the White Sands National Monument. Of course, we made our usual fine dining lunch stop at a Super Wal-Mart.

We did get to see the largest pistachio in the world.

We also saw a nicely restored vintage Airstream before we left Roswell.

We stopped for the night at the KOA in Lordsburg, NM.

We left Lordsburg this morning and continued west.

We stopped at the Camping World in Tucson for a break and a few supplies.

We decided to make a little side trip to the Saguaro National Park.

It was quite impressive. These very large cacti are quite magestic, and each is a little different. The Saguaro happened to be in bloom at this time of year.

As we drove through Phoenix this afternoon, the thermometer in Daisy was reading 105 degrees, and at one point it hit 108.

We continued to Quartzsite, Arizona. We stopped at the Holiday Palms RV Park. We we were setting up Lucy, I noticed that one of her tires was bulging significantly in the center of the tread. I'm afraid that the tread may have separated. These Maxxis are two years old and have 27,000 miles on them. I guessthat I will have to deal with this issue in the morning.

Here are some photos of todays activities and the Park.

Great pictures Brian. This is one of the best times of the year to visit the desert before it gets too hot. The Phoenix temperatures are running a little high right now but the good news is the pool has warmed up to 80 degrees and ready to use.

I went through Quartzsite last week work) and the town has pretty much emptied out and will be that way until next winter. You may need to limp over to Blythe, CA to find the services you need.

Travel safe...

Wow, super photos, Brian! Gotta love that rugged beauty...

Sorry to hear about the tread separation, I guess it's not only Marathons that can suffer that.

Tell me about it!

We just got back to the campground with Lucy sporting four brand new tires. The tire store here in Quartzsite had a supply of Maxxis just like the ones that had been on Lucy. They had lasted 27,000+ miles which is pretty good. We decided to go with the Maxxis 10 plys again.

Califonia gas is very pricey and also in remote parts of the desert so fill up near the major areas and go a few blocks from the interstate always much cheaper.
In the middle of Williams is a KB , right in the middle of town and 20 cents less a gallon than on the interstate.

We use the internet at the campgrounds if available. If not, we connect through our Alltel cell phone with their Mobilink feature.

Thanx for the offer on the power and water.

After we got her new tires and got her hooked up again at the campground, We headed out to tour the area.

We drove up to Parker and looked around the town. They have a brand new Super Wal-Mart scheduled to open in July on the north end of town.

We crossed over into California and drove up to the Parker Dam on the California side. The dam is really neat. We continued up to Lake Havasu City and went across the London Bridge and toured the town.

We drove back to Quartzsite on the Arizona side. We didn't get back to Lucy until after 9:00 PM.

I don't know what you paid for gas, but it is running about $2.30-$2.40 a gallon for regular unleaded here. Also, I don't know if you noticed it, but "premium" gas is a couple octane lower here than in Florida. 93 octane is the norm there, versus 91 here, and there is still the same price spread between grades, 10 cents more for "plus" another 10 for "premium".

Living The Dream

Moosetags,
You are living the dream. Your invitation list is impressive, a veritable who's who in the Airstream world. But, having solitude on the road is important too.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
The photos are giving me a little wanderlust. No chucking my job though, probably would not be able to get another. The kids still need to eat, a lot too.
2 years and 27k miles would give me pause on the tires though. On the road hazards, part of the experience I guess.
We are starting Black Fly season here in Maine. Time to grade the dirt roads as they just thawed out and are still a little soft.
Happy Trails,

Robert,

Yes, we are getting to live the dream. We are so thankful that we were both able to retire while young enough to still want to do stuff, and Airstreaming around this great country is really good stuff.

Everywhere we visit feels like we live there for a short time because we have a home (Lucy) to return to each evening.

As we sit here in Quartzsite, this morning, it is like a giant RV ghost town. We have always wanted to see it, but we didn't want to participate with the cast of thousands. Now we are getting to reside here for a few days. There are probably more RV sites here in this little town than any other place in the world.

AS to my tire adventures, the last set of Maxxis did twice as good as the OEM Marathons. The Marathons got about 15,000 and we had three blow-outs. The Maxxis did much better with one pressure loss at 25,000 miles and two tread separations at 27,000 miles. None of the Maxxis failures were blow-outs. That's why I was happy to be able to find Maxxis 10 plys in this little town, and they all had a recent production date of 3608.

As for the Maine black flys, one year ago today we were at Baxter State Park experiencing these wonderful creatures. We are planning to be Baxter in the late summer of this year. Baxter and vicinity has some of the best Moose watching spots in the country.

Today, we will explore Quartzsite more closely and take a run over to Blythe to look around.

Brian

Exploration of Quartzsite

We spent the day exploring Quartzsite and vicinity.

We drove over to Blythe, California and looked around. We had lunch at the Courtesy Diner in Downtown Blythe. We were joined by a man named Tom who was born in Blythe in 1925. We had a very pleasant time and learned about everything that has happened in Blythe in past 80 years. It was like stepping back in time.

We drove back to Quartzsite and spent several hours exploring this RV town. It is unbelievable that a town of this size can have so many RV sites.

We got a pizza and brought it back to Lucy and started breaking camp so that we can be "wheels up" at a decent time tomorrow morning.

We arrived in San Dimas, California, on Sunday. We got a really nice campsite at East Shore RV Park.

We have spent the last couple of days visiting with my cousin who leves nearby in Covina.

The campground is very nice. We got a great site on top of the hill. Our dinette window overlooks a beautiful lake. Talk about a great view!

We plan to stay here for a few more days.
