We had rain this morning in Albert Lea, Minnesota. This delayed our departure until about 10 AM. Actually we just wanted to sleep-in and listen to the rain tapping on Lucy's roof.

After we got through Minneapolis, we got stuck in a massive traffic jam due to an accident in Monticello, Minnesota. Once we got through there, we were confronted with another traffic jam in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

It was a hard day traffic wise, but we still had a great time and saw some really nice scenery. We arrived at our friends' house in Lake George, Minnesota a little before 8 PM.

We set Lucy up in their driveway. They have RV hook-ups at their house, so Lucy was right at home. We will be spending the next few days here.

All sounds good. Lucy must be easy pulling with your truck, but was she comfortable on that rainy morning? Or, are you missing those extra few feet of living space? Boundry waters are beautiful, hope you get some time to canoe them, you've probably done it before.

Yes, Lucy pulls easily with the one ton Duramax, even with the Outfitter on board. As to the living space, we are getting used to it. SuEllyn has maid noises that she misses the 25FB. Time will tell.

I worked up in the Boundary Waters area many years ago, but didn't get to do any of the fun stuff. Now we're retired.

It was a beautiful morning on Lake George, Minnesota. We were up and about fairly early this morning and made our way into the town of Lake George to attend their annual Blueberry Festival. We checked out the goings on and then we decided to take a ride up to Bemidji to look around. Bemidji is about 20 miles from Lake George.

Once in Bemidji, we looked around the old downtown, visited the Paul Bunyan and Babe statues, and did some shopping at Wal-Mart.

We returned to Lake George in time to partake in the Bean Feed at the Volunteer Fire Department. They served ham, beans, potato salad and rolls. The food was very good and they served over 400 people. This was a large group of people for a town that has a population of about 200.

We spent the rest of the evening visiting with our friends and hosts, Jeff and Linda. We watched a beautiful sunset on Lake George before retiring to Lucy for the night.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that SuEllyn is unhappy with New Lucy. This is our first really long trip with the new girl. We have spent about 80 nights in New Lucy, but up until now it all been in Jacksonville and Tampa.

SuEllyn keeps comparing the 23FBto our old 25FB. The comments are usually negative toward New Lucy. I am hoping that this will change as as we become more accustomed to the 23FB layout.

After all, we are on a cross country adventure in an Airstream with no particular schedule or itinerary. What more can one ask for?

This morning we awoke to the pitter patter of rain on Lucy's roof. We had to force ourselves to get up and out so that we could attend the Blueberry Pancake Breakfast at the Fire Station in Lake George. There was a long line, but we managed to finally get some really good blueberry pancakes.

After the breakfast, we decided that we would take a drive down to Park Rapids and do some looking around. Park Rapids is about 20 miles south of Lake George. On the way, we passed through Emma, Minnesota, which has the dubious honor of being the smallest town in the state with a population of 4.

When we got to Park Rapids, we stopped at the L&M Fleet Supply. It is a large farm and ranch supply store. We spent over an hour there looking at their wares. They had a whole bunch of really cool stuff, much of which we had absolutely no idea what it is used for. We did buy some really nice brass plumbing connections for Lucy and several other hardware items.

From there, we rode around Park Rapids taking in the sights. On our way out of town, we stopped at a local RV dealer who sold these very unusual looking travel trailers. They are combination travel trailers and ice fishing houses. These trailers are pulled out onto a frozen lake in the winter. The trailer wheels retract and allow the trailer sit directly on the ice. There are a number of access holes in the floor of the trailer through which you can auger a hole in the ice and fish in heated comfort. Some of these trailers even had satellite television and sleeping accommodations for several people. We had never seen this type of trailer before.

We returned to Lucy in Lake George where we had a nice supper and visited with our friends.

I'm afraid that this is the best picture that I have of the hitch on one ice fishing house trailers. I would appear that you hook up to the tow vehicle and then raise the trailer.

We will not be going back through Park Rapids when we leave here tomorrow, so we will not be passing that dealer again. If we see another one of these trailers, I will get better pictures.

We had a nice quiet day at Lake George. This morning we went into town and got some Moose Tags Shipped at the Lake George Post Office. We came back to Lucy and started some housekeeping chores in preparation to head out tomorrow.

This afternoon we went out and toured around the area with our friends, Jeff and Linda. We headed over to Dorset, Minnesota, and had supper there at the Dorset House Restaurant. We had some great food and a really nice time.

We came back to Lake George in time to catch sunset on the Lake, and spend some more time visiting with good friends.

Tomorrow we plan to hook-up Lucy and head to the Boundary Waters area of Northern Minnesota.

We broke camp in Lake George this morning, and headed north and east into the Minnesota Boundary Waters Area. It was about a 200 trip mostly on back roads. We went through a few small towns, but it was mostly open country. We stopped to look at a US Army Corps of Engineers Dam near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The mighty Mississippi River is not much more than a stream at this point near its headwaters.

We were headed to Ely, Minnesota. Ely (pronounced Eelee) is the epicenter of the Boundary Waters Area. We looked around town for a bit before heading out into the Superior National Forest. We found a nice US Forest Service campsite near Fall River about 10 miles outside of Ely. We got Lucy set up on her campsite right before a rain storm passed through. We are in for the night.

We spent the day in and around Ely, Minnesota. We ventured out and took a look at a number of the lakes in the area. The opposite bank of many of these lakes is in Canada.

We also visited several of the resorts and outfitters in the area. They arrange fishing and canoeing trip on these lakes. We spoke with one group of young men who were embarking on an eight day canoe adventure where they will camp-out in the wild during their journey.

We returned to Lucy at her campsite late this afternoon. We had supper and started preparing to head out again tomorrow. We are heading to Grand Portage, Minnesota.

The weather has been really nice. There has been some rain, but the temperatures have ranged from a high of 70 to 75, and a low of 55 to 60. This is much more pleasant than the 95ish at home in the Florida Panhandle.

We went to the first two Canopeners. We have not been able to make it since because we have had a conflict with a business convention that we have been attending in Orlando around the same time. Hopefully, we will will be able to make it by there next year even if we can't attend. We live in Santa Rosa Beach along 30A about 3 miles east of the Topsail Campground.

Hey, you two! This is a wonderful thread. Lin and I enjoy following your adventures to many places we've also toured in years past (not with the Silver Otter, for the most part). We have enjoyed Topsail and your home area for a number of Canopeners in the past. This will probably be our last year there, but we love the area.

Thank you for your kind words. We also love Santa Rosa Beach and the Emerald Coast. We have been there almost twenty years, having come there from Jacksonville in 1995. It is a really neat place to return to after an extensive Airstream Adventure.

We really enjoy doing our trip logs and posting our pictures. I addition to the posts we do here on Airforums, we also do an email to all our friends and family. We do cheat a little bit in that the text in our trip emails is pretty much copied to the Forums post. Likewise, with the daily pictures.

Our email goes out to about 200 addresses, and we try to get one out every day when we are out on one of our Airstream adventures. We like doing this because it chronicles our Airstream trips for us to look back on, and we get to share it with our friends and family.

We take a lot of pictures on our trips. Last year on our western swing we took about 5,000 pictures. I know that seems excessive, but we can't help ourselves. I keep almost 3,000 pictures of that trip on my phone.

I had discontinued the Airforums trip threads a couple of years ago. There were several people on the Forums at that time who objected to my trip threads, and posted snide remarks. I guess they felt that I was using too much band width.

More recently, several folks here have encouraged me to start doing our trip threads again. So here we are, back to exploiting the band width. If there are those here who don't like it, they are free NOT to read it.
