If you are within striking distance of Spokane (and I think you are) and this is an AS-specific issue, you can probably get help from the AS dealer there. Word on the forum here is they are very helpful. Best of luck getting a quick fix!

Thanks for the tip about the AS Dealer in Spokane. Moses Lake is about 100 west of Spokane. Hensley has sent us a new head unit. We're already tracking the shipment with UPS. It should arrive here on Friday.

Well, we think that we have Lucy's hitch problem solved. The manufacturer in Michigan is sending us a new control unit to replace the one that has broken. It is already on the way here via UPS, and is scheduled to arrive on Friday.
Meanwhile, we are making the best of our situation, and visiting towns in this part of Washington. Today we took in Wenatchee, Leavenworth, and Ellenburg.
Wenatchee is actually a small city about the size of Panama City, Florida. Leavenworth and Ellenburg are smaller towns, but were also interesting to tour.
We stopped and got a pizza for supper and brought it back to Lucy.

We were actually up this morning before the crack of dawn. We know it's hard to believe, but we were out in Fred and Ethel at 5:30 AM!!!!! We were on our way to a meeting with a Washington Fish and Wildlife Officer who had offered to show us the capture and electronic tagging of salmon coming upstream on the Wenatchee River. SuEllyn had met the Ranger yesterday, and he had told her that he would be tagging fish early this morning, and that he would show us the process.
We met him at the fish capture facility at the Tumwater Dam near Leavenworth, Washington. He captured about 30 Salmon and several Steelhead Trout. Some of these Salmon weighed about 30#. The electronic tagging is done with a small device that is about the size of a grain of rice. It was very interesting to observe this process.
As we were finished quite early, we decided to head up to Grand Coulee Dam. We got up to the Dam around noon and spent several hours going through the Visitors' Center and the town of Grand Coulee.
We got back to Lucy just before dark.

No, we did not. We decided that the Visitors' Center information was sufficient. All that the official tour was comprised of was was a jitney ride across the top of the dam.

Today was a day off from vacationing. For starters we had to extend our stay at the Campground here in Moses Lake. This was no small task as we are closing in on the Labor Day Weekend, and the campground was pretty booked. The campground owner was most cooperative and worked a few things around so that Lucy could stay on her site through the weekend.
Early this afternoon we went into town and got some Moose Tags shipments off at the Post Office. We stopped at a roadside corn stand and got some sweet corn. It is corn harvest time here, and we were told by locals that some of the sweetest corn in the world is grown here. We were even directed to a specific corn stand from a particular local farm. The young man at the corn stand was very cordial and gave us each a sample of his corn. Even uncooked, it was the sweetest corn that we had ever had. We bought some to have tonight.
We then headed over to the local Chevrolet Dealer here in Moses Lake. The Service Manager was very helpful as we were just passing through. He took Fred right in for an oil and fuel filter change. They also topped off his Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Fred is now ready for the rest of our journey.
We stopped on the way back to Lucy and got some rotisserie chicken to go with corn. When we got home, we had a really nice supper of chicken and very sweet corn.
Today was a little short on pictures, so we have included a few from yesterday.

Lucy is still camped at Moses Lake, Washington. Her hitch parts are due here tomorrow. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
We decided to take a drive down to Yakima, Washington today. On the way we visited the Moses Lake Sand Dunes Recreation Area. People are already staking out camp sites for the big Labor Day Weekend. From there we headed down through the Washington countryside to Othello, Pasco, and Kennewick. We stopped briefly and looked around each of these towns before heading west to Yakima.
We got over to Yakima at about 6:00 PM. We toured around Yakima for about an hour before heading back to Lucy.
We got back to the campground right as it got dark.

Today was another day off from vacationing. Lucy's new hitch arrived. The UPS man showed up right at noon. He had our 98 pound box containing Lucy's replacement hitch. We spent most of the rest of the day getting the old hitch removed and the new hitch installed. It took us until about 5:00 PM to complete the job. The new hitch required set-up and greasing. Fortunately, we carry a grease gun and all the necessary tools with us on the road. We haven't given it a rest run yet, but all seems ready to go.
We plan to head out of here tomorrow if we can find a campground up the road as we are now in the middle of the Labor Day Weekend.
After the hitch installation, we decided that deli food from the local supermarket was in order. We had supper in Lucy and watched a fantastic sunset.
As we had a stay-at-home day, we have posted some pictures from earlier.

Moosetags, not sure exactly where you are headed; but if Olympia is along the way, Washington Land Yacht Harbor (Airstream) RV Park is a great stop. It's about a mile south of I-5; and there's a Costco, WalMart, and lots of shopping and restaurants within a few blocks of the campground. Watch for traffic coming over the hill, if you have to turn across traffic; as a car t-boned an RV coming out of the park while we were there. From the skid marks on the road, this must happen frequently.
The campground host only charged us $18 back in April, even though we are not WBCCI members and expected to pay the higher rate.
Also, don't worry if the office doesn't answer the phone or return your calls. The staff seems to be part-time or out-and-about a lot of the time. With 160 sites, I'm pretty sure there's always room for one more.
It was empty when we were there in April, but that might be different during the peak summer season. The second day we were there, the entire northwest regional chapter of the Good Sam Club arrived for a rally; and we were the only Airstream in the park (except for a couple of their members). However, there were still lots of spaces near the office, which seem to be reserved for Airstreams only.
We are really enjoying your pictures. Wish we were there, instead of sitting at home in Phoenix where it's 110 degrees!

Washington Land Yacht Harbor RV Park
9101 Steilacoom Road S.E., Olympia, WA 98513
Reservations: 360-491-3750 | Office: 360-459-0198
GPS: 47° 3.060'N 122° 44.817'W
The main part of the campground is a gravel parking lot. However, all sites have full hookups; and they are very wide and long, and will easily accommodate even the largest rigs. There are a few "premium" sites up front next to the office, which have shade, a picnic table and a concrete island that acts as a mini-patio. That is where we parked.
The morning after we arrived, Good Sam hosted a rally for all Good Sam units in Washington, and we were surrounded by huge motorhomes and SOBs. That's when the office suggested that we move to a first-row, premium site (same price, $18).
One key feature of this campground is the hidden park area, and extensive dog run with off-leash enclosure. A long grassy, tree bordered, dog run follows below the western edge of the gravel parking lot; and if you follow the path towards the meeting hall, it drops down through an arched tunnel of trees and greenery to a huge park, similar in size to most local city parks in Phoenix. This area also has a big picnic area in a grove of trees, and the off-leash dog enclosure. This entire potion of the campground makes it a hidden gem for dog owners, and I suspect most overnight campers are completely unaware of this back area, which comprises about half of the campground.
160 RV sites, full hookups, 30 amp service, water, sewer, free WiFi. Cable TV provides limited channels. Antenna improves reception slightly, but major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) are not available. FOX is the only major network received, but the signal is clear. Excellent cell and 4G broadband service.
Rates: $27/nite - non-WBCCI members ($18 for members).

Hello Everyone,
Lucy made her escape from the campground and quietly slipped out of Moses Lake, Washington. Her replacement hitch is working well. We made a quick stop at the Moses Lake Post Office, headed out in a northwesterly direction. We made our way through the Washington countryside on an assortment of back roads. In the 150 miles between Moses Lake and Twisp, Washington we only went through one town. That was Ephrata, Washington which was only about twenty miles out of Moses Lake.
Most of the trip was through high desert country with quite a few steep mountain upgrades and downgrades, including a four mile 12% downgrade. Fred's exhaust braking system handled this very well, even with Lucy doing a lot of pushing.
As we got closer to Twisp, the desert terrain gave way to the more treed landscape of the Okanogan National Forest. We were diverted from our route on Washington State Road 153 because of a mud slide that had blocked the road.
We arrived at the Riverbend RV Park in Twisp at around 4:00 PM. There were two other Airstreams already camped there, both of them larger than Lucy. This is a really nice campground that is directly on the Methow River.
We went into Twisp for some groceries and came back to Lucy for supper.
It was sure good to get on the road again with Lucy.
Brian

Thank you so much for the recommendation of the Washington Land Yacht Harbor. We had planned to tour western Washington. Now Olympia is on our list. We will plan a couple of nights at the Washington Land Yacht Harbor.

This morning we awoke at at Riverbend RV Park just outside of Twisp, Washington. This is a great place to stay. There are shade trees, the sights are level and the hook-ups are good. Lucy has a campsite with a great view out of her dinette windows. We can see the Methow River with the mountains in the background.
There are two other Airstreams next to us at this campground. It looks like a mini Airstream Rally. I don't think that we have ever seen this many Airstreams in the same small campground in the middle of nowhere.
We plan to stay here again tonight. Tomorrow we are going to take the scenic drive across Washington Highway 20 to Marblemount.

That's right. The name of the town that Lucy is camped in is Twisp, Washington. It is a small town at the edge of the Cascade Mountains. It also the home of the North Cascades Smoke Jumper Base. This is the place where the concept of firefighters parachuting into forest fires was born and developed in 1939. A small group jumpers trained and developed the program here. The first actual jump into a forest fire was done from here on August 10, 1940. It is still the training ground and the main base of the US Forest Service's Smoke Jumper Program.
We visited the Smoke Jumper Base today and got a tour of the facility by one of the Smoke Jumpers. It was very interesting to hear about the training and missions of the Smoke Jumpers. We were the only ones on the tour and got to ask a lot of questions. We left with a great respect for these men and women who do this demanding and dangerous job.
We then drove up to Winthrop, Washington, where we toured the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery. It was enlightening to hear about the Salmon hatchery program that was a direct result of the building of the Grand Coulee Dam in 1936. The building of this dam precluded the Salmon from swimming up the Columbia River to their spawning grounds. The US Fish and Wildlife Service runs the hatchery to supply Salmon to the Columbia River who return to their ocean habitat.
We drove out east on Washington Highway 20 enjoy the mountain terrain.
We got back to Lucy around supper time and made some preparations for tomorrow's departure. We plan to head over to the North Cascades National Park.

This morning we broke camp in Twisp and headed out with Lucy to take on North Cascades National Park.We drove through the Park on Washington Highway 20. The scenery along this route is spectacular. This is one of the most scenic drives in the
United States.
We continued west on Washington 20 all the way over to I-5. We took I-5 North to Bellingham, Washington where we got Lucy a campsite at the Bellingham RV Park.
All of tonight's pictures were taken along the North Cascades Scenic Highway.
