Thanks for another look at Swiss Caps looks like a nice product and maybe something will consider in the future on a new truck.
Thanks also for the great look inside Buc-ee's. We knew what it was, knew where it was but we have never been inside of one. Now we can see what the fun and interesting following is about.

We were blown away the first time we went into a Buc-ee's. If you have not visited one, you need to. The jerky counter is massive and you can get free samples!

For the Buc-ee’s fans, there is one under construction in Baldwin County, Alabama at I-10 and the Beach Expressway exit. It should be open this fall. Worth a stop for sure.

Lucy is still camped in the San Antonio area. Today we met with friends who gave us a tour of their 77 Acre ranch near Tarpley, Texas. Before driving out to the ranch, we met for lunch in Bandera . We had lunch at the Old Spanish Trail Restaurant on Main Street in Bandera. This restaurant was opened and has been in continuous operation since 1921. It is commonly referred to as the OST. If you ever find yourself in Bandera, Texas, I would highly recommend the OST. I had the chicken fried steak. It may well be the best in the world.
We drove out to Tom and Yolanda's ranch after lunch. We got the grand tour and took in the beautiful scenery. We then headed back to Lucy to check on her at the campground. We went over to Tom and Yolanda's house in Helotes for dinner.. We had a very nice dinner and visit before heading back to Lucy for the night.
Tonight's pictures include:
- The 1890 Bandera County Courthouse.
- OST Restaurant.
- FM 470 on the way to the ranch.
- Ranch view.
- SuEllyn and Brian at the ranch.
- Lillian at the ranch.
- Lillian and Lucy at their campsite in Boerne.

We were also. Now we stop whenever we see a Bic-ee's They also have bulk DEF at every Diesel pump. We find this very convenient at a price less than the bottles of DEF.
Buc-ee's is also invading Florida. They are building a new one along I-95 in St. Augustine. When they first announced it, there was local outrage because of all the noise from the big trucks. Their argument was blown out of the water by the fact that Buc-ee's does not allow semis at any of their locations. Buc-ee's has raised the bar for all roadway emporiums.

Lucy had a travel day today. She broke camp in Boerne this morning and started making her way to Lubbock, Texas. Lucy made her way through the Texas countryside up to Big Spring where we decided that we would get a campground for the night. We got Lucy a campsite at Hat Creek RV Park. It's not real great, but has full hook-ups and the price was right. We got Lucy set-up and took Lillian out to Wal-Mart to get her some fuel.
We came back to Lucy for a quick supper and have settled in for the night.
Tonight's pictures include:
- This guy must be an off-duty Policeman.
- Lucy and Lillian taking a break.
- Art deco filling station in Comfort, Texas.
- Downtown Eden, Texas.
- 1910 State Hotel in Sterling City, Texas.
- Wind mills.
- Coming into Big spring, Texas.

Lucy broke camp this morning in Big Spring. We got a late start, but didn't have far to go. We covered most of the one hundred miles to Lubbock on Texas 137, a back road route.
We arrived in Lubbock and got Lucy a nice campsite at the Mesa Verde RV Park. We got Lucy settled in and went to visit our friends, Pat and CW, here in Lubbock. We had a nice visit and dinner before returning to Lucy to settle in for the night.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Oil well along Texas 137.
- 1945 Tower Theatre in Lamesa, Texas.
- Texas 137 has telephone poles down both sides of the road.
- Farm tractor sharing the highway.
- Irrigation pivot off in the distance.
- Lucy and Lillian at their campsite.
- Lucy thinks that she would like a paint job like this.

More great shots, thanks. Sadly the Tower Theater is only a facade, and the original sign has been replaced by the painted version:

Great pictures!
I have always been fascinated by the wide roads of old western towns...can just envision the days of wagon trains and cattle drives.

Hi Peter,
Yes, I have noticed this this double line spacing between paragraphs. I believe that it has to be something with the browser, in my case it is FireFox. I have not had time to really mess with it, but I have found that I can go back in and edit my post and remove the extra line space. This is why some of my posts are double spaced and some are not.

Lucy broke camp this morning in Lubbock. Last night we had decided to head toward Santa Fe. We woke up this morning and decided that Roswell, New Mexico would be a better bet. We headed west out of Lubbock on state highways. This scenic route took us through Levelland and Morton, Texas. It was mostly farm and ranch country interspersed with oil wells and wind mills. When we crossed into New Mexico on Texas 125, we entered the Mountain Time Zone. This gained us an hour on the clock. We arrived at Spring River RV park in Roswell late this afternoon. It was pretty hot here today. We got Lucy set up on her campsite.
Roswell is the famed town that was the center of a 1947 incident that was believed by some to be the crash landing of an extraterrestrial aircraft. Some reports at the time said that the military recovered a spacecraft and the bodies of several alien beings and took them to Area 51 in Nevada. The Government has always claimed that this incident was the crash of a weather balloon.
We did some grocery shopping this evening, and had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. We came back to Lucy and got settled in for the night. We plan to do some exploration of Roswell tomorrow.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Wind mill along Texas 1114.
- The sad remains of a farmstead along Texas 114.
- Implement dealer in Levelland, Texas.
- Numerous oil wells along Texas 114.Texas 125.
- Downtown Morton, Texas.
- Texas 125 out of Morton.
- This tractor was about the only traffic that we saw.
- Texas 125 becoming New Mexico 125.
- Lucy taking a break.
- 107 degrees in Roswell today.
Brian

Thanks for posting/sharing your travels. Very enjoyable!
I can't believe I'm so late finding this thread. I'm tagging along (again).
Wondering, do you intend to give Lillian's cap a separate name? (I'm thinking of Ethel and Fred)
If so, a proper "Swiss" name? Heidi?

Safe travels!
ps:
If/when you run the geni with the cap's lids closed, would appreciate a report. Thanks!

Don't miss the Robert Goddard museum in Roswell, if it is still there. Visited that long ago and enjoyed seeing where rocket science really got its start. After WWII, when the US intelligence folks asked Werner VonBraun where the Germans got the technology for the V2, he told them that it was from our own American scientist's work that the US had practically ignored.

Hi Alan,
Since the topper is more part of the truck, probably not. The truck camper (Ethel) was a separate camping unit, so she got a name.
We have run the generator inside the closed-up topper for a night at a Wal-Mart. It worked well, but is still a work in progress.

Lucy is still camped in Roswell, New Mexico. We toured the town and did some shopping. It was another hot day, so we didn't spend much outdoor time. We toured the Chavez County Courthouse. It is a spectacular old building. It was built in 1911 in preparation for New Mexico's admission to the Union as the 47th State in 1912.
We also visited the Roswell Museum where we learned about Robert Goddard, a Roswell resident who virtually invented rocket science in the early 20th Century.
We had lunch at the Club (Sam's Club), and it was excellent as usual. We did some looking around the UFO district and the downtown area. We went back to Lucy for a while. We went back out to dinner at Los Cerritos, the best Mexican restaurant in Roswell. There was a one hour wait when we got there at six o'clock. We sat at the bar and got served right away. It was really really good.
We have now returned to Lucy and settled in for the night.
Tonight's pictures include:
-1925 Goddard Rocket.
- Alien Street lights in Roswell.
- The 1911 Chavez County Courthouse.
- Inside of courthouse rotunda.
- Ornate tile floors in courthouse.
- flying saucer and alien outside motel.
- Main Street, Roswell.
- SuEllyn meeting alien commander.
- Old Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Roswell.

That phrase got my attention!
Great photos. Amazing how small the Goddard rocket was. Makes sense of course for the 1920's, but I had always pictured that rocket from our "modern" perspective. Nice to be drawn back to what a visionary Goddard really was.
. . . and those eyes on the street light!
Thanks again for another fine history lesson.
Happy trails,
Peter
