We are planning a big western adventure for Lucy this summer. We will be stopping to visit SuEllyn's cousin in Camarillo. The last time we were there, we camped in Oxnard. Maybe we can get together at some point while we are in the area.

Lucy settled into her site at a little tiny campground in Big Pine Key. This campground is mostly seasonals (snow birds) with only a couple of come and go sites. It's a really neat little place in a great location.
We looked around the close by area today and visited Bahia Honda State Park to check out the kayak launch points.
We were able to have a close encounter with one of the endangered Key Deer on No Name Key right before dark.

Hi Brian, I, too, was raised in Miami, and flew out of OPF back in the day (the 70's)....too bad they finally tore down the blimp hangar! The thing I miss the most about south Florida is Shorty's BBQ!!

Congratulations on 1000 nights in Lucy. We just got back from the keys on Wednesday unfortunately without our Airstream. We have considered coming to the keys with it sometime but wondered about the effect of the salt air on the Airstream.
We had only 5 days flying into Ft Lauderdale on Saturday, then driving to Key West where we enjoyed 3 days and then took our time driving back to Ft Lauderdale on the 4th day. We walked on a trail in the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key and saw 3 key deer. It was really interesting to see such small deer.
Good luck and safe driving on your adventure.
Dennis

I haven't lived in Miami for a long time. I moved away in 1970. I was raised close in (251 SW 11 Street). Shorty's was a trip to the country, but worth the ride. When I left, I-95 ended at NW 69th Street, and the Goodyear Blimp still wintered on Watson Island along the MacArthur Causeway. There's not a lot left in Miami from my childhood days.

It's funny you should mention that. I recently crunched the numbers and came up with 47.8% of our nights have been spent in Lucy since we got her in June of 2006. We think that we have already gotten our money's worth.

I don't think that a trip to the Florida Keys would in the Airstream would have any great impact from a corrosion standpoint. When we are at home in the Florida Panhandle, Lucy is kept in our driveway which is the third house off of the ocean. Lucy doesn't have any more corrosion than most other Airstreams of her age.
We are only staying here in the Keys for five days. The campsites here are locked down by snow birds this time of year.

Congratulations on using your Airstream the way that it was meant to be used. That is just awesome that you have spent 1,000 nights in it and have been to 48 states.

Thanks for the photos of the Moorish building. As you know, we like unusual architecture too. We've been to the Keys 4 times, but have never seen a key deer. We stayed at the KOA a couple of years ago and realized we were lucky not to have parked under a coconut palm. Those guys would put a nasty dent in an Airstream when they fall.
Haven't you picked up your truck camper by now? How is it?

Brian,
Thanks for all YOU do for many here on the forum, including me! You inspired us to keep a 'log' for the Silver Otter, too. We've got a long way to go to catch up, but I'm willing to try. We're up to 29 states and 1 province. I'll have to go back and count the nights-on-the-road. We bought the Otter last April.
