Lucy Heads to New England

It's that time again Lucy fans. Lucy has embarked on yet another adventure to New England in pursuit of the ever elusive Mooses of the northeast. Lucy actually left her home base in the Florida Panhandle about a week ago. She made a stop for several days in Jacksonville, and then three nights in Hardeeville, South Carolina, visiting friends and carefully watching the progress of Hurricane Earl.

We left Hardeeville on Friday morning, and headed north. Lucy spent Friday night in Christiansburg, Virginia. We took off this morning and did another 400+ miles. Tonight we are at the Petro Truck Stop in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Here are a few shots of Lucy and Olivia.

We do plan to hit Lake Francis, but we are going to go into Maine first as the Moose Hunting season starts earlier there. We will keep you posted.

The night at the truck stop was uneventful. We are going to head up into Vermont/New Hampshire today. It was tough finding a one night campsite on this holiday weekend, but we came up with a water/electric site near Brattleboro, Vermont.

We are have a fresh water tank mystery problem. We fill the tank and, next thing we know, it is half empty. We are not seeing any evidence of a leak????????

Here is a nice shot of the girls right after sunrise at the truck stop.

Hey Brian,

Yep we passed you (Sept. 3) two just south of Charlotte on I-77. We were in New Hampshire and Maine during late July and had a Moose sighting near Franconia Notch SP. Spotted a cow and calf in the watershed beside Cannon Mt.

Safe travels,

Kevin

Lucy has continued on to Vermont. We got a water/electric site at a campground in Brattleboro, Vermont. It was OK, but was very dusty when everyone started heading out this morning. At this point, the Petro Truck Plaza was the nicest campground since we left South Carolina.

We headed across New Hampshire and into Maine. Lucy made camp at the KOA in Canaan, Maine. We are going to lay in here for a couple of days and attempt a repair to the small hole in Lucy's fresh water tank.

We are breaking camp this morning at the KOA in Canaan, Maine. We are going to attempt a repair to our fresh water tank this morning before we leave.

We spent yesterday doing some housekeeping around Lucy.

Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

1. Interesting dome on old bank building in downtown Skowhegan, Maine.
2. Another Airstream from Washington a couple of rows over from us at the campground.
3. Lucy and Olivia relaxing at the campground.

Brian , I'm not sure whats wrong with your water tank or what it's made of but here are some things I've learned.

If it's polypropelene , epoxies and fibre resins won't work . Plastic welding is the best . Eternabond claims it will patch a hole in a water or waste tank but I have not tried it. A screw or bolt with rubber washers might work if you can get to it.

If it's ABS the glue and a patch should work.

If it's fiberglass then a patch kit should work

Good luck and happy moose hunting.

Thanx for the info. Lucy's tank appears to be fiberglass of some sort. the rip is very small. I am about to try some JB Weld on it if I can ever get some dry weather. It's fogy and raining in northern Maine this morning.

We arrived in Presque Isle, Maine, late yesterday afternoon after driving in the rain pretty much all day.

Lucy has made camp at Arndt's Aroostock Campground north of Presque Isle. Lucy has a beautiful campsite up on a bluff overlooking fields and forest. It is foggy/rainy this morning. I'm sure that the view will be much nicer when the weather clears.

No Mooses yet. We had a short day of Moosing as we had to order a new tire for Lucy. One of her Maxxis (14,500 miles) is showing signs of tread separation. The closest E tire is a Carlisle ans has to come out of New York. It should be here by next Tuesday. This junk trailer tire thing has gotten very depressing. We're about ready to go to 16" wheels and LT tires. I have read that Jackson Center is doing this conversion for $250.00 per tire/wheel. This is sounding very attractive as we are paying a total of $155.00 here for another probably junk ST tire.

We did make it up to Portage this afternoon and drove some of the logging roads until the dusk caught up with us. With the rain, the back roads are a little muddy.
