Lucy has escaped

Don't pay the ransom, I've escaped!!!

Once again, Lucy has set out on one of her epic cross country adventures. She has been preparing for her trip at a secret location in the North Georgia Mountains. She has been hiding in plain sight amongst a large group of lookalike trailers at the Top of Georgia Airstream Park.

Tomorrow morning Lucy will embark on her journey across these United States in pursuit of the the ever-elusive Moose. Before heading into Moose Country, we will make a brief stop in Oklahoma. Then it's on to Denver for some serious truck camper shopping. After that's done, we will head on up into the Bighorns of Wyoming for encounters with the Alces alces (Mooses). If the weather has not broken yet, we will head out into Utah for some red rock adventures.

Come join us on yet another great Airstream Adventure. We will be reporting on our progress and encounters. Stay tuned for further updates.

Brian

If you are shopping in the Denver area, you may want to look at Outfitter truck campers—up in the Longmont or Loveland area along I-25 (I always get those two cities confused). If so, reconsider. We bought one in 2002 and it was a disaster—leaks galore, things didn't work and more things didn't work, very, very late delivery, terrible job installing air bags (one blew out because it was installed incorrectly). We brought it back. I think they are still in business and it's 9 years later and that may mean they solved their problems, but I would be careful.

Another local brand is Haulmark (or a name similar) that had a good reputation 10 years ago, but I don't know since then. There are or used to be other local brands in the Denver area, but some aren't so good, so check it very carefully.

There are mooses on Grand Mesa, but the snow is still deep, but if I see any (it's only 40-50 miles away out my window) I'll let you know. Have a good trip.

Thanks, Gene. We have an appointment at Outfitter in Longmont next Tuesday morning. We looked at Hallmark on line. They only have east/west sleeping arrangement which is a deal breaker. The other pop-up TC in the Denver area is Coyote, and they have a questionable rep. Right now it is kind of between the the Outfitter and the Northstar which we have already seen in person. They are made in Iowa.

Also, thanks for the Moose info.

I've been in the southern rockies since Easter and let me tell you the weather has NOT broken yet--lows of 10 at night. Carry full propane tanks.

Left TX. when the temp went over 100--hell of a shock.

We're not sure yet. It depends on the weather and when we will be able to get up into the high country.

SuEllyn and Brian:
I'll look forward to traveling with you and Lucy. Thanks for taking me and the Forums crew along with you on your adventures. It's great that I can be in your rearview mirror at least digitally.

Have a great trip.

Lucy Made it to Arkansas

It was a long day for Lucy today. She did 525 miles from Helen, Georgia to Forrest City, Arkansas. We traveled across the Mountains of North Georgia into Chattanooga, Tennessee. We then headed across a portion of Tennessee, into Alabama, across Mississippi, back into Tennessee at Memphis, and into Arkansas. Most of today's route was along US Highways. We did very little Interstate Highway travel today.

In northern Alabama we saw several pockets of devastation where the recent tornadoes had come through. We saw several homes that were completely destroyed along US 72. As we approached the Mississippi River, we started to notice many farm fields that were under water. Several exits along I-40 were closed as the exit ramp ran directly into the water.

Lucy is spending the night in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Forrest City, Arkansas. We're using one of the generators for power. We won't need any a/c tonight. The temperature is down into the 40's

Her are a couple of pictures that we took today along the Ocoee River in the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee.
