Yes, she was really sweet. She was also very cooperative for the pictures.

Targhee National Forest

We are still camped in Squirrel, Idaho.

Today we ventured into the Targhee National Forest from the Idaho side. The Targhee National Forest straddles Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana, and borders Yellowstone National Park. We were able to get about 12 miles into the forest before being stopped by snow pack on the road. We were probably about 2 miles from the Wyoming state line when we had to turn around.

Along this route we saw a abundance of excellent Moose terrain, but nary a Moose to be found. This area looked so good that we are going to head back there tomorrow for another look.

We did see a super view of the Grand Tetons from our vantage point in the forest. We were also able to scope out some excellent truck camping spots in the Forest for future use. These are free camping spots in the Forest right in the middle of the Moose terrain. It would be difficult to get Lucy to these spots, but a truck camper would have no problem getting in there. These are very secluded spots where you might find a tent camper.

As usual, we arrived back at Lucy as it got dark.

Still in Idaho

Lucy is still camped in Idaho. We had another day out in the wilderness is pursuit of Mooses. We came up dry again today. The terrain in the national Forest is loaded with willow bushes, Aspen trees, and bogs full of vegetation. These are all the things that Mooses love. Why they aren't there we have no idea.

We have decided to break camp and move on tomorrow morning. We are going to head over to the Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming. We think most of the roads are now open. Maybe the Moosing will be better over there.

Her are a few pictures of Lucy at her campsite, the neighbor's float boat, and a great looking tow vehicle at the local gas station.

Anchorage Daily News (ADN.com) frequently has cool moose photos. Seems this time of the year is when the Alaska moose are calving.
Good moose hunting to you. Paula

All baby animals are sweet, aren't they?

Just something about them melts me.

I can only walk on water in the winter.

Brian, good photos. That green tow vehicle looks formidable though a bit exposed in wet weather. Good luck finding more mooses.

Buffalo, Wyoming

Lucy broke camp this morning in Squirrel, Idaho, and headed out to hopefully better moosing grounds. We drove up to West Yellowstone, Montana, where we drove along US 191 in Yellowstone National Park. The scenery was quite impressive. We continued up to Bozeman, Montana, where we caught I-90. We proceeded east through Billings and into Wyoming, and on to Buffalo. We did a long day (480 miles), but got to Buffalo right at dark. We have stayed here before. This section of the Bighorn National Forest is usually loaded with Mooses. We'll be headed out into the Forest tomorrow.

Wow! Had my morning coffee and saw some of the U.S.A. at the same time. Thanks for the great travel essay.

You should come to Canada and see our moose -- better yet -- listen to them. They
bellow in French....and English.
