We got Sam's Town's prices this afternoon in person and they were 19 & 27.

Boulder City, Nevada

We had some entertainment first thing this morning. One of the really large El Montees (rental Class C) was departing the campground. I watched in amazement as he drove by with all three of his roof vents wide open, his television antenna in the full up position, and some sort of wire trailing behind dragging the ground. I ran out to try to catch him, but was unable to do so. The last that I saw him he was headed up the street toward I-15.

later this morning Brian's Cousin, Florence, came by Lucy, and we headed out to tour Boulder City. Boulder City was built by the US Government in the early 1930's to house the men working to build Hoover Dam. It included a downtown section with stores, a bank, a post office, a hotel, and a theater. Most of the buildings are still standing today. The government ultimately sold off the properties to the residents. Many Hoover Dam employees live in these houses today.

We had lunch at a local diner, and drove the streets looking at the vintage houses and buildings.

We returned to Las Vegas and had supper there. We parted company with cousin Florence. She is heading back to Los Angeles tomorrow morning, and Lucy is heading out to an undisclosed location as we have not decided where we are going from here.

Below are a few photos from today's outing to Boulder City.

Olivia Turns 100,000 miles!

Lucy broke camp this morning at the Circus Circus KOA and bid Las Vegas a fond farewell. Lucy was happy to get on the road again. We headed north on I-15 out of Nevada, into Arizona for a short time, and into Utah.

While we were still in Nevada we had to stop and recognize a special occasion. Olivia hit the 100,000 mile mark on the Moapa River Indian Reservation. We stopped at the Indian grocery store near the entrance to the valley of Fire State Park. We couldn't find a whole cake there, so we settled for a pair of chocolate cupcakes to mark the milestone.

We went on a few miles until the actual event took place and stopped for photographs and celebratory cake. We then continued north working our way to the Moose country in the Targhee National Forest in Idaho. We have determined that the snow melt is sufficient there to get into the back country.

Lucy has made camp for the night in Nephi, Utah.

Squirrel, Idaho

That's right! Lucy is camping tonight in Squirrel, Idaho. We are in a campground kind of in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the Targhee National Forest. There are Mooses in the area. They have been seen by people we have talked to.

We broke camp this morning at Nephi, Utah, and headed north through Salt Lake City and into Idaho. We covered about 350 miles. It was a pleasant and uneventful trip with some beautiful scenery along the way. We didn't make it to the campground until it was getting dark, so we will have to wait until the morning to take some pictures This campground is a really interesting place. It is very remote and is only a couple of miles from the Wyoming state line. We can see the Tetons in the distance.

we did get a few pictures along the way for your viewing enjoyment.

Ah, the Tetons. We love that place. We have planned another trip there in August. The Grand Teton NP is not that popular, apparantly, as we have not had trouble getting around the couple of times we've visited. Great kayaking and hiking too. FWIW, we usually see moose. Keep the posts coming, Brian. I am really enjoying the trip.

It IS a beautiful place. A long time ago I used to live in Teton NP on one of the last remaining private ranches. It's definitely on our AS bucket list! Looking forward to some photos.

Brian, I am curious if as you make your way across the country, do you make any reservations ahead of time, or wing it? If winging it, what do you use as references for where to stay? Enjoying your adventurel, keep the pics and commentary coming

Actually, we do both. Sometimes when we are pretty sure of how far we are going to go, we will look for campgrounds in that area and maybe even make a reservation. Most of the time we fly by the seat of our pants and stop whenever, wherever. Sometimes things don't work out as planned and we find ourselves the next morning in a Wal-Mart parking loot or truck plaza in an undisclosed location. The price is right and we refer to it as boondocking. We define boondocking as anytime you have to get the generator out.

We are glad you are enjoying Lucy's adventure.

Brian

First Moose Sighting!

Lucy is camped in Squirrel, Idaho. The campground is also a 18 hole golf course. This is a little bit surprising out in the middle of nowhere. It does make for an attractive landscape, though.

We set out today in search of Mooses, and things were kind of slow until late this afternoon when we spotted a young cow near the road in Island Park, Idaho, which is about 25 miles from our campground. She was calmly feeding on some tender vegetation in an area that appears to have been flooded recently. She was kind enough to pose for a number of pictures.

After our first Moose encounter of the season, we drove over to look at Upper Mesa Falls on the Snake River. An average of a half billion gallons of water a day goes over the falls. We also stopped and took a look at the Lower Mesa Falls about 2 miles downstream.

By the time we got back to Lucy, it was just about dark.

Hi, before you leave there, you might want to check for Hail damage. [Oh hail, Lucy got hit with a golf ball]
