Good choice Brian to take in Bryce Canyon. It is definitely worth seeing. Are you going to St. George via US 89 and UT 9 through Zion?

I really think it is a beefalo. This is not a joke. Many ranchers crossed beef with buffalo to get a hardier breed of cattle. There are many beefalo up here in Montana, on private ranches. Same thing as crossing a donkey with a horse to get a mule. It is all in the genetics.

We were planning on heading out Utah 12 from Bryce to US 89, then go north a short way to Utah 20 and over to I-15. We are planning to stay in St. George for 3 nights. we plan to go see Zion from there on day trips. We also need to resupply as we haven't seen a Wal-Mart in a week. The girls also need a bath really bad.

That's what I originally assumed. Then I looked at some Beefalo on line, and they looked nothing like the Dogcow.

Bryce canyon Views

Lucy continued relaxing at her campsite while we took off in Olivia and toured the rest of the Park down to Rainbow Point. The views along the way were so impressive that we didn't know what to take a picture of next.

We have included a sampling of the view in Bryce Canyon without further comment. Please enjoy.

We break camp in the morning and head out to St. George and Zion National Park which is about 150 miles from here.

There was alot of snow at the southern viewpoints when we were there a month ago. Looks like it has finally melted off. Spectacular!

Brian, the weather looks better there than here. We've had rain, snow, fog, thunder, and more rain for more than a week. We leave for 3 days in Ouray, Colorado today and the forecast is for rain and snow then clearing. Bryce looks great and there's actually blue sky.

We chose Snow Canyon because we had an extra night between Bryce & getting into the Zion area. Were there a year ago last week right at peak flower time -- lovely. It is pretty darn hot in the valley. The campground hosts said they committed until about July 4th but that campers slow down when full summer arrives -- wondered if they would last until mid-June themselves.

Brian, are you going to Zion? To the top of the Emerald Pools trail is pretty and mostly shaded during afternoon heat. I hope you have time to get over to the Kolob Canyons section of Zion -- beautiful! We did the overlook and then hiked the Taylor Creek trail -- a lovely respite from heat. Take some layers if you go -- a fleece vest & rain slicker is fine. We far preferred this area to the spare desolation east of the tunnel. Some Kolob pics:

Back to Civilization

Lucy broke camp this morning in Bryce Canyon National Park. We had been dry camping at Bryce and were ready for some conveniences. We did have the generators to charge Lucy's batteries, but prefer full hook-ups. We headed southwest through the Utah countryside toward St. George. When we got on I-15 at Utah 20, it was the first time that Lucy and Olivia had been on an interstate Highway in over a week. We were surprised to see the speed limit of 80 MPH. The girls tried, but never quite made it to the status of speeding. It had also been over a week since we had seen a Wal-Mart .

When we got to Cedar City, made a Wal-Mart stop just because we could. We continued on to St. George where the first order of business was for the girls to have a bath. We found a really nice do-it-yourself car wash that could accommodate Lucy. Olivia got the treatment first. Then it was Lucy's turn. They both enjoyed it immensely.

Then it was on to the campground, McArthur's RV Resort where we got a really nice site with 5 point hook-ups. We plan to stay here for 3 nights so we can visit Zion National Park and explore the area.

We did make another visit to the Wal-mart here in St, George to pick up some supplies. The girls are clean and tucked in their campsite, and we are enjoying the cable TV and wifi.

Brian

80! It was 75 last fall when we traveled up I-15. We keep to 65 and the trucks were flying by us. As always great photos—they allow me to relive our trips. I'm glad you and SuEllyn had an alternative plan when the weather didn't cooperate. The national and state parks in southern Utah are all great places to visit and explore. Those blue skies are coming to us (we hope) as it was raining when we made camp in Ouray this afternoon. Might snow tonight; 40˚ at midnight.

They just have to have a good tubbie once in awhile.

Love the photo chronicle of your trip. Bryce Canyon is on our places-to-go list. It looks absolutely breathtaking.

Travel safe,

Maggie

I remember driving through Montana in the early 70's when the speed limit was "Reasonable and Prudent" . I heard they tried to go back to that recently.

Brian;

A place you might find interesting in the area is Mountain Meadows Monument. Its on Rte. 18 about 40 miles north of St. George. Its very pretty and serene but was the scene of a tragic incident. If you haven't heard of it, it is fully explained at the Monument or you can Google it. Nice drive and worth the trip.
