Hi Chuck,

Fred (2011 Silverado) was the first of the DEF in the Diesel GM trucks. Fred's issues have been bad Nox sensors and a malfunctioning DEF pump. We have Fred for 5 years. We bought him new. Fred now has 105,000 miles on him, but the DEF issues sated in the first year. As we travel so much, Fred has been to Chevrolet dealers all over the country. I have been told that these DEF issues are very common, even on the new trucks.

I read a GM Diesel forum, and have found that these problems are consistent across the board. I understand that these issues are also common with Fords and Dodges.

I would strongly suggest that you get on a Ford Diesel forum and see what the DEF chatter is there.

Brian

When we got our new tow vehicle, we decided to avoid possible DEF-related issues. FWIW here is a thread about purchasing DEF in the Tow Vehicles sub-forum:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f463...op-154378.html

The posters there may have more thorough feedback.

Thanks again for the great photos and comments, Brian. Have a great trip Evelyn!

I have had no issues with my 2012 Ford F250 which I towed 13000 miles to Alaska last year and now my 2016 Ford F250 is not having any DEF issues. The only reason I have been to a dealer is for Oil Changes in the past 5 years.

We did not post last night due to technical difficulties. Yesterday morning, we got Lucy into the Service Center at the Airstream Factory for some minor repairs and installation of a new awning on her left side.

While Lucy was being worked on, we drove over to Sidney, Ohio, which is the county seat of Shelby County. We looked around town and had lunch there.

We made it back to Jackson Center in time to see Lucy's work completed. Service Center technicians Brent and Justin did a great job. Lucy was brought back to her campsite at the Terraport and we got her settled in.

We drove over to Botkins, Ohio for Dinner. Botkins is about nine miles west of Jackson Center. There is a restaurant there called the Inn Between. We had what we believe is the best fried chicken in the world! It even beat out Popeye's which had been our favorite.

If you like fried chicken, and you are ever traveling through Ohio on I-75, you must make it a point to stop at the Inn Between in Botkins. You take Exit #102 and go west about a half mile where you will find the Inn Between at the intersection of Ohio 274 and Shelby County Highway 25A. We had two chicken dinners, three long necks, and the bill was under $20.

Lucy broke camp this morning at the Airstream Factory, and we headed south. We made over 300 miles today, and have made camp for the night at the KOA in Bowling Green, Kentucky. We went out to supper tonight with our dear friends, Cindy and Rob, and their son , Grant. We had a very nice visit. We continued our visit back at Lucy.

We have settled-in for the night, and will continue south in the morning.

Tonight's pictures:

- Lucy settled-in at the Terraport.
- The Little Green Tug taking Lucy to the Service Center.
- The 1882 Shelby County Courthouse, Siney, Ohio.
- The 1921 Sidney Theatre.
- The 1886 Bonnyconnellen Castle in Sidney.
- The 1942 Elder Theatre in Downtown Jackson Center.
- Lucy being worked on in the Service Center.
- Lucy having her new awning installed.
- Lucy showing off her new awning.
_ Lucy under a very nice rainbow in the Terraport.

This morning Lucy broke camp in Bowling Green. We are back in the home time zone. We made our way south into Tennessee, and on to Alabama. We have come most of the way through Alabama. Lucy is camped for the night in Hope Hull, Alabama, which is just south of the State Capital in Montgomery. We had covered 360 miles today.

We had a celebratory dinner in Lucy for our last night on the road. We have been gone for 56 nights on this trip. We should easily make it home tomorrow. We have less than 200 miles to go.

We have now settled into Lucy for our last night of the trip.

Tonight's pictures:

- Entering Tennessee.
- Downtown Nashville.
- Tennessee Countryside.
- Alabama Welcome Station on I-65.
- Beautiful old barn in the Alabama countryside.
- Downtown Birmingham.
- Old art deco building near downtown Birmingham.
- Downtown Montgomery, Alabama.
- The Hyundai Automobile Manufacturing Plant south of Montgomery.
- Fred and the Girls settled into their campsite in Hope Hull, Alabama.

Wish I had known you were going to stop in BG. Our son Emil is station manager at WKYU Western Kentucky University's public radio service. We've spent many nights at that KOA. It's a nice one

truly enjoy your detail airstream journey y'all are taking.
just wondering why you are thinking of a Honda 3000.
just looking at your method of airstreaming would think you would like the solar.

We often stop at Bowling Green when traveling that route. We have close friends there that we try to visit.

The plan for our next phase of Airstreaming includes a Honda 3000 in the bed of the truck. That way we can hit a Wal-Mart or truck plaza for a quick overnight on a long run. This way, we can have airconditioning or heat pump. Most solar can't handle this.

Lucy broke camp in Hope Hull, Alabama, and we headed home. We were about 150 miles from home. Lucy made it to Santa Rosa Beach late yesterday afternoon. We got Lucy tucked in her spot in the alley behind the house.

Lucy's trip lasted 56 days, and we covered a little over 9,000 miles. Thank you for joining us. We will do it again soon.

Today's pictures:

- Main Street, Florala, Alabama.
- Florida State Line on US 331 at Florala.
- Sunset last night at Santa Rosa Beach.
- Lucy tucked in at her home campsite.

Glad you are home safely.
I really enjoyed your trip.
Thanks for sharing!

ps: We were in the exact same parking spot at the Terraport (1st photo in post 206) when we were there in June.

Thumbs up great trip

That was a cool trip, I want to go back to NS & PEI & Maine. Going to Maine in Sept. Don't know if we're taking the AS.

I like the idea of the Genset in the back of the truck. Leave the back open for exhaust and heat? or fans in the roof of the topper for exhaust and heat?
Interesting, have to think about this.

Your documentation of your trips are always top notch !

Have a good one !

We are think of putting two small exhaust fans in the ceiling of the topper. We are considering using the little round one like in the Airstream bathrooms. This way we can keep the generator locked up in the bed of the truck.

I met some people with an SOB trailer and a Honda 3000 on my last trip. They were unhappy that the Honda 3000 would not run their 15000 BTU air conditioner.

So, be sure that the generator you're considering will indeed handle your AC.

I ran two Honda 2000i's in parallel in the bed of my truck in the Oshkosh airshow campground, and they ran my air conditioner (also 15000 btu) without any problem.

I enjoy reading about your travels and seeing the fantastic pictures.

Lucy's next outing will be to Jacksonville for a family wedding in a couple of weeks. We'll come back to the Panhandle for Labor Day. Then we will probably head out west to do some Moosing in Wyoming.
