Brian - thanks for the play by play of your trip including the pictures. There are so many great sites to see in this country. I can't wait until we have the time to take off for weeks at a time - were are not quite 50 yet so it will be years. But at least we have our Airstream already

Lucy stayed camped in Branson today while we set out to explore this famous tourist town. There is a lot going on here and it's all aimed at the tourists. There are more restaurants, hotels, and attractions here than you will find in most towns. The traffic is atrocious, but we spent the time going through Main street just to see the sights.

After looking around town, we went back to Lucy for lunch. This afternoon we toured the Table Rock Dam and the Table Rock State Park. There was some flooding in the area from recent storms.

We got back to Lucy well before dark to start our preparations to break camp in the morning.

Today's pictures include:

- Branson Water Tower
- Main Street, Branson
- Duck tour vehicle
- Familiar characters
- Downtown Branson
- Lucy is not as big as we think she is
- Table Rock Dam
- View of Branson from the cliff
- Flooded marina in Table Rock State Park
- Driving across Table Rock Dam

If you need a nice overnight courtesy stop, check out the Homesteader Park on 14A in Powell, Wyoming--about 20 miles north of Cody. It has great bathroom facilities, picnic tables, grills, and dual dump station. Also, between Cody and Powell, make sure you visit Heart Mountain Museum that gives great detail about the WWII Japanese Internment Camp there. It tells the full story including the work the detainees did to develop the irrigation system that made this high desert region blossom. The system is amazing to see as you tour the area.

Lucy packed up in Branson this morning and we were actually rolling at nine o'clock. We made our way up to Springfield, Missouri. We stopped and visited the giant Bass Pro Shop. This is where Bass Pro was founded in 1971. This is their flagship store and it is humongous. We spent a couple of hours looking around and had lunch there.

We continued up Missouri 13 to Collins, where we turned west on to US 54. We crossed into Kansas. It was really hot today hovering just under 100 degrees everywhere we went.

We made it as far as Iola, Kansas by 5 o'clock and decided to stop for the night. We got Lucy a nice campsite right along US 54. Lucy's air conditioner had to work hard to get it comfortable inside, but she did it in pretty quick order, and we got settled in for the night.

Today's pictures include:
- US 65 in Missouri
- Vernon Country Courthouse, Nevada, Missouri.
- Vintage neon sign.
- Commercial buildings in Nevada
- Fox Theatre in Nevada, Missouri
- Entering Kansas
- Downtown Iola, Kansas
- Fred's thermometer at 100 degrees.
- Iola Theatre
- Iola campground

Kansas is surly hot in July. Someone once said Airstreams are best in the spring and fall. Those are my best travel seasons. I enjoy your pictures of small towns still going. It brings back memories having grown up in a small town. Sadly they are sometimes no longer economically viable and die out. The towns you have visited look pretty nice. You are making the journey west the best part of the trip.

Safe travels. Watch the weather and don't drive into a severe storm like I did some years ago. Lucy and Fred do not like hail storms. I make a great back seat adviser.

We're riding along with New Lucy.

Brian,

How do you get so many photos on one post? When I do it, it only allows me 4.

High temps are not good for meds and supplements and I am thinking of keeping them in the truck while we travel. Perhaps you take none, but if you do, I'm wondering how you deal with that? It isn't good for some of food we store in the trailer, but I have no good solution for that.

In post 38, 2nd photo, you appear to be well over the double yellow line—is that parallax from taking the photo from the passenger seat, or what? Do I have to take you into custody (if so, surrender on Vancouver Is. in mid-August, I'll see if there are any mooses there).

End of questions—hope the temps drop soon, a bit cooler here.

Not sure yet. We tend to not plan much in advance. We just kind of meander around the country.

Hi Gene,

The Forums allows a max of 10 photos with a post. You have to do it in three sets, 4, 4, and 2.

We just keep meds in the bathroom. We have never worried about the high temps.

That photo was taken by SuEllyn in the passenger seat. It just appears that Fred is over the line .

Lucy broke camp in Iola this morning and headed out toward Wichita. We traveled state and US highways and stayed off the Interstate. We saw a lot of farm country and very little traffic. We did come across a train derailment site along Kansas State Road 39. Workers were in the process of torch cutting a Union Pacific Locomotive. They were cutting it into pieces so that it could be cleared from the site.

We made it to Wichita in time to have lunch at the club (Sam's Club). We also stopped and toured several small towns along the way.

We continued to Halstead, Kansas where we got Lucy a very nice campsite in the shade which was a very good thing as Lucy's inside temperature was 102 degrees when we made camp. We started Lucy's air conditioner and took a ride over to Newton while she was cooling down.

We came back to Lucy before dark, had supper, and settled in for the night.

Today's photos include:

- Locomotive being cut up
- Old Dodge moho being used in Severy, Kansas
- Victorian home in Newton, Kansas
- Fox Theatre in Newton
- Entering Halstead, Kansas
- Main Street, Halstead
- 1917 train station in Halstead
- Glass insulators still in use in Halstead
- Very cool mail box mount at a welding firm in Halstead

Brian,

Nice photos, as always. Your second Fox theater.

Yesterday was Moose Day on Grand Mesa. They estimate 400 with a very healthy population.

About those photos—when I click on Go Advanced, then Manage Attachments, I only get space in that little box for 4. What am I missing?
