Los Angeles Area campsites

We are going to be in LA on the 21st of November and looking for a campsite for our 17ft Caravel.
Any suggestions that would be good for a 3 day stay. It looks like Malibu as a few spots in the mountain area but I'm wondering what it's like after the recent fires.

There's Malibu Beach RV Park (up hill) cross Pacific Coastal Highway to reach beach.

There are several other no hookup campgrounds: Leo Carillo, Saycamore and beachfront camping. Also Malibu Creek State Campground further up in mountains away from the beach.

Not sure if you want full hookups or not.

This is one of the great near-beach rv parks on the west coast. It's pricey, buy you'll be in a short walk of homes that run in the 10+ million range. Walk far enough up around the corner and you could run into just about any TV or film celebrity you can imagine.

To get a very rough idea of your view and the scene in general, go to Surfline.com and navigate to the Malibu Surfrider beach cam.

Because it's a weekend and leading into Thanksgiving, I'd strongly recommend reservations as early as you can make them. Just the average weekend in southern California tends to find most places filled up, so a holiday week will be challenging.

When you say "Los Angeles Area" that's a pretty big area. Can you narrow it down a bit? What are you planning on doing? Will you be driving somewhere to visit friends/relatives? Driving in to tour LA? Going to Disneyland or Hollywood? Or are you going to be sitting enjoying the CG you stay in?

Agree that as this is the weekend before Thanksgiving getting a site at one of the premium RV parks with hookups will be hit-and-miss. Many, if not all, of the beach-side campgrounds book up months, if not a full year in advance. You may have to call around and get on waiting lists.

One more CG I would recommend you try is Golden Shores RV in Long Beach. We've stayed there the past two years in the weeks prior to Christmas. It is a very clean resort within walking distance of the Long Beach shoreline with it's attractions and shops. Also the Long Beach Aquarium is close by.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Dockweiler State Beach is the only in-town campground in LA, and it is located under the LAX Airport, and adjacent to the greater county sewage facility. Run by the County of LA Dept. of Beaches and Harbors. If the weather is right you will not smell the sewage at all! It is basically a big parking lot with hookups. But it is safe (gated), close to all the action, and just as expensive or less than Malibu. Located on the beach, where the whole LA scene either rides their bike by, or walks the beach. We have stayed there many times. Check it out.

Let us know how it went after your camping trip. I have not tried this campground but have been eyeing it from time to time.

I stopped by on Sunday on my way home from a Porsche event in Orange County. I appears to be well maintained, restrooms were spotless. All in all better than I expected as well as no real sign of the recent burn, which came right down to the back of it. PCH might be a bit noisy as it's right there but the sound of the ocean might drown out the traffic noise.
