Looking for CG w/fishing in south central Colorado

Hello
Any recommendations for a campground w/stream fishing in south central (Salida, LaVeta, etc.) Colorado? We have a 25' AS, generator, so dry camping a definite option.
Thank you!

South Fork has a few privately owned baked up to the Rio Grande, which happens to be a Blue Ribbon trout river, in that area. If your looking for trout. There is also the South Fork Rio Grande, and several mountain lakes in the area.

There are several campgrounds down highway 50 south of Salida. I think the fishing is better going over Monarch Pass toward Gunnison. Take 50 west. Taylor river has a number of great camping spots from Almont toward the reservoir. Not that much further over. If you are going from SA, you can go I 25 north into colorado and take the road west toward Gunnison. Or you can go through Santa Fe, nice several day stop there and take 285 north. Nice drive.

O'Haver Lake campgrounds, SW of Salida. Take Marshal Pass road west off of 285. You can reserve on Reserveamerica.com. Lots of great dry camping sports on the the way to the creek and lake.

Also, east of Salida on HWY 50, take HWY 6 south of Coaldale up Hayden Creek. Lots of trout fishing up there, lots of dry camping and some country campgrounds. Also, Cuttys resort on Hayden creek if you want a few amenities.

Have Fun.

How about the Conejos River west of Antonio. I haven't been there but I've thought about checking it out for fishing and camping.

We stayed at Rosey Lane on the Taylor River just north of Almont. It was our Favorite campground on our 8000 mile trip this past summer. Great sites and great camp hosts with fishing ten yards from the campsites. We did catch a few fish as well.

I also suggest the Conejos river. We fished it many times from the late 70's until 1990. Most of our fishing was from the Lake Fork camp ground up to Platoro. We camped in nearly all of the camp grounds from HW 17 to Mix Lake just above Platoro. At that time Lake Fork was our favorite. We also hiked up to several lakes and usually caught fish. One lake was Tobacco Lake and we hiked on up a short distance and we were on top of Conejos Peak at 13172 ft elevation. What a view! My wife and I also hiked from road 105 up to Bear Lake. The trail was switch back most of the way but what a beautiful place at the top. Fishing was great. I would love to go there again but At 80 ys old I probably should not try. We stayed in the Elk Creek camp Ground in 2010 and I believe that it had just been rebuilt and was nice. The road to Platoro was too rough to take our AS farther than Elk Creek. All of the other campgrounds along the river up to Platoro had been neglected and were over grown with brush. I hope something has been done about them since then

Don't quit fishing. Sign up for a guided 1/2 or full day float trip on one of your favorite western rivers if mobility is a problem.
