yeah, seems kinda selfish when a line, it's like getting groceries and not bothering to pack your own bag when a long line. Never got that one !! It's just a simple common courtesy to fellow travelers

The only think worse than being stuck in a slow moving dump station line is having a professional plumber dump his tanks in front of you! Not a pretty sight!

Move on

Yeah, like someone said previously in this thread, I will get up early if I have a schedule to make & need to beat the crowds. If I don't, then that is my fault, especially if there is a line.
I usually try to have plan 'B'. There is always chance of a 'Loves' truck stop on the way. They have dumping stations.
Rest areas in most states have dumping stations. Alabama rest areas are such equipped. Some of the newer rest areas in NC and VA have dumping stations. I always try have an alternative plan.
Have a good one

Ever watch Europeans use a dump station? Its hillarious. They handle the hose like the poop spray comtains ebola, but think nothing of using the contaminated flush hose to then fill their fresh water tank! Ick...

Amen. I always make sure I dump before or after the long lines form but sometimes there’s nothing you can do but wait. 5 minutes is all it takes to do it right but there are a lot of new campers that may not know how, and I help where possible. I’ve never heard anyone complain (probably explains so much venting on here) but, just like when you can’t see clearly to make a right turn on a red light, I imagine some people start cussing the minute they see the flush hose get hooked up.

I guess if it really bothers you, you can start honking or get out and complain directly to the person. Then post on here how that worked out. I always think of my buddy who was always going out of his way to “be courteous”. There was a long line of airplanes waiting to use the single runway so he shortened up the preflight checklist. The engine quit, fortunately on takeoff roll. Everyone then had to wait while he turned the fuel valve to a tank containing fuel, prime, and restart the engine.

By the way, the toilet in my trailer is “#1 only” and I fill the tank with water before dumping, so I generally don’t need to flush anyway.

Hi

If I decide to run the black water flush on our 39 gallon tank to the point it runs clear .... that's way more than 5 minutes. If I do a charge and dump on the gray water that also will be way over 5 minutes. From chatting with others in line, even if they are not running a load of laundry at the dump station (yes, some are ... ) the big guys tanks are pretty large (like 2X or more the size of mine). It will take them a while to do a dump and flush on full tanks.

Lots of fun !!!

I’m thinking there will be a long line whether or not people flush tanks.

I am amazed that I sat and read through all these comments! I did my first dump the other day and for the rank newbie it can weigh on the mind doing it right, no matter how many YouTube videos you've seen. Fortunately it was at a nice little out of the way park with no one around at all. I would think being helpful or at least humorous would be better than impatient especially if the person taking the time is new.

Lots of moaning and groaning.... but, on the bright side.

Set up some folding lawn chairs and be entertained.

At a Truck Stop several days ago in New Mexico, I had the mispleasure to watch a couple dump their grey and black water. It had to be one of the more entertaining parts of our trip. Well... it was the most entertaining part of our trip.

When the dump hoses are not 'down hill' and empty when you begin to roll them up for storage... it can get rather... disgusting to some, and to an observer at a distance... how not to look into the hose at the same time gravity takes over.

Rather than becoming impatient, observe and learn from other's mistakes. Some times it is not a chipmunk stuck in the hose... needing to be released back into a tree.

I will take a long line over the double sided dump at a Mackinac City (Michigan) campground... Better have more black water then then guy opposite you or their stuff comes into your realm. It was waaaaay bad. I didn't need to see that they ate corn last night in what came into my dump basin.

Hi

Sometimes you simply do not have any choice of when or where to dump. I *try* to schedule things so that if we have to use a dump station, it's not likely to be at "rush hour". Most campsites / public dumps have a pattern to them. End of the weekend between 10 and noon is probably not a good time to hit the dump station at the campground ....

So the way I see it is our camper has the flush system and it is recommended by Airstream to use it at every dump station. Not all dump station will have the connections to use this system so no flush. When we flush our system it takes time and we can be there for 20 maybe 30 minutes depending on water pressure. You have to think that no one wants to be hanging out at the dump station any longer than necessary but, flushing is recommended. I'm waiting for some new technology, were I pull up to dump and some machine does it all and I drive away sipping my coffee and smiling.
Peace and Love!

Some of the need to flush tanks out at each dump could be elimated by not putting toilet paper into your black tank, and allowing solid waste only when another toilet is not available.

Just sayin’...our tank capacity also lasts much longer particularly without having to flush toilet paper.

I Add as much water to the tank that I have or have patience for before leaving the campsite and driving to the dump station, I only use the flush system if im bored and there is no line behind me.

Am with the OP on this one. If youre using a dump station, dump and go.
I actually try to time myself to get the job done in under 5 mins.

For those not worried about time (someday soon I wont be), realize there are plenty of families and others in line who dont have the "spare" time you do.

Spend a few $$ and head to a full hookup site and rinse to your hearts content. Or leave during the day when the station is empty.
