Locked out of the Airstream

My wife got locked out of our 2008 Classic 25fb. Somehow the inside latch got moved over to the lock position and she closed the door. I wasn't at the campsite to help and she had to borrow her sister's phone. All the keys and her purse were in the AS. Luckily the storage hatch was left unlocked. By removing the two screws that hold the metal support wires the door folded all the way down. She was able to crawl inside the compartment, lift up the bed and get inside. Phew, I was worried we'd have to call a locksmith. Good thing the storage area under the bed didn't have a lot of stuff in it

Lesson learned. We will keep a set of keys on ourshelves and keep a spare somewhere out of the trailer and tow vehicle so this can't happen again.

Welcome to the lock out club. Plenty of places to keep a spare set of keys around the exterior of the trailer. I keep a spare set stached outside and another set in the Jeep. I keep my main set around my neck when ever I am outside. This was a lesson learned from locking myself out.

You might want to contact Inland RV for their lockout prevention kit. I'm sure Andy will be along before the evening is over with details.

Yep, been there, done that. Now I have a set of keys, the wife has a set of keys, and we have a set hidden outside the trailer.

You should be thankful it wasn't the sliding deadbolt lock they had in the early 2000's, that sucker would lock itself driving down a bumpy road.

There is no longer anything special about Airstream keys. You can get all the blanks from and have them cut by an authentic old school locksmith. Not at Walmart, Lowes, etc. I recently had 4 sets (16 keys) of spare keys made for a grand total of under $20 by a local locksmith.

I got it from Andy for our 2007 but our 2014 came with it from the factory.

Send us a SASE with 2 stamps on it and we will send you that kit at no charge.

We can also tell you how to easily get into the trailer, but not in writing. Call us at 800-8777311 and ask for Michele. She can tell you how to do it.

Presently, I am in Hawaii and won't be back until next Monday.

Aloha

Andy

This happened to us years ago. Fortunately, a buddy was able to use the flathead screwdriver blade on his Swiss Army Knife to work the offending deadbolt back far enough to open the door. Now, we always have an extra set of keys in our truck (F150) which has the combination push-button pad on the drivers door. We can get in our locked truck even if the AS door locks itself again. Oh, and I also always carry a Swiss Army Knife just in case.

We always keep a complete set of AS keys in the TV. That set is not allowed to be removed from the truck and used in the normal course of operation, it is for emergencies only!

Guys... Thieves may see this and realize they can break into an Airstream by climbing into a rear hatch...

not good.

Really?
You don't think they'll just break a window, and climb in?
