locally sourced organic Airstreams
I love to cook, and (other than what we grow) shop to get locally grown organic food to cook, and am looking forward to doing this with our Airstream- hitting the road in the next few weeks. I'd love to hear other's stories of local food stuff they've found while travelling, and sharing recipes or ideas. My interest is in finding interesting food, unusual apples, local fresh meat or vegetables and highlighting their flavors, making something amazing but simple. If there is anyone out there curious but unsure, speak up, this is information to share.
Lets get cooking

I like to explore the local microbreweries of any area that I travel to. When I bicycled down the Pacific Coast Highway, I had a great time sampling the local offerings. Beer is food, right?

Beer and Ales are some of the most healthful beverages you can consume. High in vitamin B, comparatively low in alcohol content, and rich in flavor. Satisfying without being stupefying.
And best yet, you can make up to 200 gallons per year of the stuff, at home, legally, at a fraction of the commercial cost. Uniformity of brew is easy to maintain.
Is beer a food... certainly is!
P.S. My family have been brewmasters for 5 generations (3 in Germany, 2 in the US), so I have a somewhat skewed view on the subject.
Prosit!

Peter-
We're also in the planning stage and look forward to the replies to your thread.
This link to local health food stores looked quite good -- hopefully you'll find it helpful.

How do we cover the waterfront without taking on creating an atlas of slow food? A worthy endeavor... but a challenge requiring a unique website in and of itself! Doesn't mean we can't try... http://www.airforums.com/forums/f484...ties-8401.html

wow, cool, what a great response. My mom always said beer is like liquid bread, and there are so many great ones to try! Wine must be a fruit? Then, what is Gin? Road trip to Anchor Steam for Junipero Gin samples! Maybe not a complete atlas, but I've found some amazing places out of the way in the US, and it's fun to share. In Missouri, off of I70, we found the most amazing winery with a restaurant, and the town had amazing stuff too. My cousin told me about a CSA she goes to in Chicago. Here in RI, I've found the best little stand, self grown organic veggies, on route 138 in Kingston.... between all the places the members of this forum know of, we could make an atlas!

cool page Canoe Stream, but I was thinking more of raw stuff we make and hopefully share with others- I get amazing local, heirloom chickens from Gleason Ranch in Bodega, or other stuff to use these amazing kitchens we have in our Airstreams. The things we make don't have to be elaborate, simple soup with great stuff is amazing. And, you can drink local brew with it.
