Gaylejoe, one of our "highest" travel moments happened when we visited this battlefield site several years ago. The weather turned in just minutes from blazing hot dusty to windy cloudy stormy. A rain storm marched across the plain from the west, driving dust ahead of it on the wind. We could see wide grey sheets of rain as it approached. It swept over us as we braced ourselves out in the wind, huge rain drops pounding the dust. As it moved on east, it left in its wake an aroma of wet sage that we'll remember forever. We can close our eyes and be back in that place at that time again. You are right...this site carries an emotion that is more than just the spectacular views. In fact the whole midwest and mountain west region should not be missed by travelers, in our opinion. ~G
