I live part time in Texas. I would do it before you left Colorado. Title, Lic., Reg., Etc. is something that is best done as far away as you can get from the Texas DMV. I did three months of trying to get a title change on a truck before I gave up and took the temp. reg and plates the DMV could give me and drove it to Minnesota to title it. And It was all legit, with recent papers and everything.

Here is the deal, for the most part law enforcement does not care much about registration on a trailer.

If you get stopped you will probably get a ticket for no trailer reg, but I doubt that you would get pulled over for no trailer registration.

You have Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas to worry about.

If it was me, I would just risk it. If I got caught I would tell the LEO the truth and see if he/she would let it go, if not I would pay the ticket.

Brevi tempore!

The fact that I am opinionated does not presuppose that I am wrong......

License Plate In Transit?

J. Morgan, That was my initial thought process ...
But the co-pilot navigator is also a lawyer so she asked me to check into it.
Funny, the Texas DMV website has very different rules for motorized vehicles vs trailers, and leaves RV trailers in a gray area ...
Also when signing a Colorado title, there is no requirement for a date.
Again, it will be interesting to talk to them personally next week.

Another thing to be aware of in Texas just for information: Make sure it has a VIN on the trailer body or tongue and that it matches the paperwork. Some cities in Texas stop trailers and confiscate any that do not have a VIN on the chassis as stolen and then sell them at auction to augment the city coffers using the same laws that allow confiscation in drug crimes.

It does not matter if you have a valid tag and have kept it current for years. They can confiscate an obvioulsy production made trailer as stolen if the VIN has been removed or if it has a "home built" title.

This case in Alvarado, TX was in the Dallas paper and there are other towns doing this.

Update ...
What we were told at Texas DMV, apply for temp tag online, get it inspected after arriving in Texas, then transfer the title.
But it no longer matters because due to a significant change in plans we are going to sell it.
75 Overlander 27' - advert up tomorrow.
