Less Stress New TV

Took our first trip with our 2012 Silverado HD 2500 Duramax/Allison. What a difference! Stress free uphills and downhills in the Cascades, put it in trailer mode, hit the engine brake button and cruise control and let her do what she wanted. Hills were a non-event while towing our '97 25ft. Safari. Wish I would have made the purchase earlier, my 2003 Silverado (gasoline) just doesn't compare to the new truck. All of you who have shared your insight were absolutely right when you wrote about this combination of diesel and transmission. Thanks for your advise.

The perfect TV, in my opinion, Ford F250 / 350 with a Cummins and the Allison trans. This combination will smoke all of the rest. Probably will never see it though. In the meantime enjoy what you got. I sure do.

Hey Sal. Just the other week when we were camping in Colorado at the USAF Academy some guy told me that Ford owns Cummins but because of prior agreement they only supply to Dodge but some day soon that agreement will end and we may see them in the Ford trucks. I don't know if any of this is accurate so we'll see. It would make a real nice combination.

I know exactly what you mean. We have now had our 2011 Silverado 3500 D-max for about a year. We just turned 32,000 miles, about half of it towing Lucy and all of toting the 3,000# truck camper. Steep upgrades mean nothing, I can now accelerate on a 7% upgrade. Also, there is no more "run away train" feeling on a 7% downgrade with the exhaust brake and Allison Transmission keeping everything under control.

That's impressive towing but not having experienced stress with the Tundra, seems like a bit of overkill/overspend for our 25' Airstream. I wonder if there's something a bit better matched to our trailer weight/aerodynamics that would perform as well.

Sounds like a great rig. I bet you like it for a long time. We have 4 years of towing with our 3/4 ton diesel and still love it.

I took the post about Ford-Cummins to mean a shop would do a Cummins engine swap for the Ford?

I have the 2011 version of that TV and absolutely love it. 10% grade at 11,000' msl and my comment was "what trailer"?

Wouldn't trade it for anything else!

Thanks SeeMore. Like I said I never heard or saw this before so I certainly wouldn't vouch for it's accuracy. Hearsay, Hearsay. There's good reason why it's not accepted in court. Remember "Dragnet", just the facts, Ma'am.

thanks Brian, I am looking forward to some long trips with this combination, that is when I retire next year. In the meantime a lot of local Pacific Northwest trips will be in the near future.

It may seem overkill/overspend to you, but needing a new truck that takes me through retirement, and with the idea of a larger airstream in the future, it may just be exactly what I need. Enjoy your Tundra, Toyotas are great vehicles.
