Land Between the Lakes

I am sure there have been previous posts about recommended campgrounds in the Land Between the Lakes area, although I could not find links. Can anyone either point me to a good link or pass on any recommendations for campgrounds? We are looking for a quiet campground for June; normally we like state/national park type environments, and would want to do some kayaking.

One campground we found was at Energy Lake - any experience? Thanks in advance!

On the basis of what you say you are looking for, I would go with Energy Lake. There is some gravel getting there but it is a nice CG. We had a small rally there a few years ago.

Site C2

We camped at Energy Lake in 2007 (pre-Airstream). I prefer a more rustic campground with space between sites and this is it.

The roads in the campground are fairly steep, but I got a mammoth 7,000 pound, 31 foot beast in my site with ease. The sites in the C loop are cut into the hillside. We were in C2 next to a covered pavilion.

The D loop was up on the hill top where the sites were closer together with less tree canopy, but great views.

The pictures tell more than I can say in words. The first is site C2, second is the view from the picnic table at C2, the third is a campfire at site C3 (close to the water) and the last is a view of the lake from C3.

LBL Campgrounds

We are enroute back from a trip that included a long weekend in LBL 2 weekends ago. We stayed at Aurora Oaks Campground in Aurora, KY. We had a great experience. Aurora Oaks is one of those private campgrounds that is being brought back to life by new owners. We seem to be coming across a few campgrounds like that these days. Aurora Oaks is in transition -- fortunately an upward transition. For us it was a good home base for the activities we had in Grand Rivers and in Benton, KY. The owner, Mike, and his family were attentive and welcoming hosts.

Wherever you decide to stay in LBL, you may want to be sure the campground is open. It is impossible to accurately describe the devastation still evident in Western Ky from the January ice storms. We were originally going to stay at COE Canal Campground. However, our reservations were canceled with a delayed opening of the campground. Canal campground is still closed. We did drive through Hileman Ferry. It is open and did have several very nice scenic sites (some reservable). Campgrounds are open -- just not all of them, yet.

Land Between The Lakes | HOME has lots more info.
