I just got home from 10 days in Ft. Collins... stayed at the Larimer County Park campground on the south end of Horsetooth Reservoir. It's about 2 miles west of Ft. Collins. $20/night plus $7 daily park fee. Right next to the lake, electric hookups, dump station, water spigot, and a new first-class restroom shower building. Very nice.

We stay at the KOA's in our area (central Florida) so far we have had good luck, KOA does a stay a night get the second night free on the first weekend of May every year to raise money for kids with cancer and we try to take advantage of that weekend and know it is helping kids in need. We always try to pick a different KOA so we can try the one's closest to us and if it turns out to be a bad we dont feel quite so bad as it is half price, but so far they all have been very clean with pools and nice professional staff. Other than that I agree they seem to be a bit high in price.

Richard, thanks for the exact web address for RV park reviews. I was too lazy to get it right but now I've added it to my bookmarks.

Our favorite is the KOA in Flagstaff, Arizona. It's been there a while, but the owner has
up-graded the power and just put in wind generators. Oh ya, he's my wife's uncle.

The worst koa for us was in Alma,Ar. We were going to Fort Smith for a class reunion and between the two CG's in the area it appeared to be the better from the street. How wrong we were. We followed the manager in the golf cart to our site. Unfortunately our progress was impeded by the appearance of two trees in the road. It was determined by the manager at this time that he would have to cut them down. The fact that they were about fifteen feet high made it a safe assumption. After the tree removal we pulled into our site. We realized immediately we needed some gravel at our site because the ground was slippery.......did I mention it was raining? The manager told his son to get a load of gravel and bring it back. Upon his return he had a few choice words for my husband. At this time I looked down and saw many fake fingernails all over the ground and literally hundreds of cigarette butts. I won't forget that KOA park.

Sounds kind of like you were interfering with the proper operation of the guy's whisky still.

Nope, it's out 89 above the Flagstaff Mall. You can hear the trains, but very
quiet. Nice and shady there, too.

Mike, my question was partly tongue and cheek, but that's good info since the railroad at Flagstaff, like Gallup, makes sleeping near it difficult. Flagstaff is a good stop for a couple of days because of all the things to see around there.

Carlsbad KOA (Carlsbad, NM)

This was the first park I ever stayed at last year, and it's a really nice KOA. It's semi-desert, so there's not many trees, but the park was nice and clean, big spaces, and a friendly staff.

Dayton, Ohio KOA is very nice...

I think this is the 4th time here at the Dayton OH KOA, very nice setup and well worth a stop if you are passing thru the central Ohio area.

We live in Maryland and make the run back to my parent's house in Minnesota at least once or more per year, and usually stop by here as it is a nice days run from MD (495 miles) and is a very nice campground for a nightly stop over.

So my vote is to put it on your list if you are looking for a stop over in the middle of Ohio.

I realize the Terraport at Jackson Center is only about 75 miles north of here, but unless I am going to JC for maintenance I would rather stay here at the KOA.

regards, Dave & Shari

Rock Island Illinois KOA

Tonite we are at the Rock Island, Illinois KOA, another nice place that I would put on your list. It is slightly lower on the scale than the Dayton KOA (still the best I have ever stayed at) so I would give this one about an 8 out of 10 because the grass is not as well maintained and that really shows.

However, we have a very nice site and nobody else is here... Maybe the recession or whatever, but the next camper is about 30 sites away from us so we are living large...

Those are our two new puppies with us on their first road trip... We have two miniature dachshunds:

the "Baron of Bavaria" who is a 6 month old black & tan male, 9 lbs. &

"Edelweiss" a 5 month old black & tan female....

They are riding just fine in hte truck each day and haveing lots of fun at the campgrounds at night...

regards, Dave & Shari

I don't know if it's just me, but the box for the photos shows, but no photos within it... I love puppies. Well, other peoples' puppies

Some things have been fixed, but the photos don't seem to be all coming back. See this thread:

Yes, now I understand why so many of the posts that were affected have lost their images.

I'll say it again: you're better off to use a third-party "image warehouse" to post pictures on here (I like photobucket.com, but there are lots of them). The benefits are:
  • They won't get lost when there's a crash unless the whole post is gone.
  • You do NOT have to worry about following any size limits: you are posting a link, and not an image.
  • If you later decide to, you may remove an image or change it for another (which can also be useful if someone links to your image for other purposes, say an ebaY sale)
They are free, no charge, gratis. What's to lose?

Hi, on our most recent trip, "Bob & Lee's random trip" we stayed at two KOAs; The one in Cedar City, Utah is a really nice one and we have stayed at this one before. Highly recommended. The other KOA was just so so and if I could remember where it was I would not recommend it, by location. I guess my memory only wants to remember the good times.

KOA in Santa Fe, NM

We try to park our Airstream Bambi in state parks and national forests but had a very nice experience at the KOA outside Santa Fe last March. The park is spread throughout a pinon forest, with large, semi-private sites. They have a very friendly staff and a well-run office and bathroom/shower facility. They even have recycling area. We were impressed and would stay there again in a minute.

We've stayed at various KOA's. Some are better than others. On a scale of 1-10: Kingman, AZ = 7(clean, well maintained, shaded, no extras, friendly staff), Holbrook, AZ = 7(clean, basic, friendly staff, no shade, no extras), Flagstaff, AZ = 8(great wooded setting, well maintained), Petaluma/San Francisco north, CA = 9 (many extras for the kids, clean, shaded, well maintained, helpful staff) Coarsegold/Yosemite, CA = 6 (dusty, hot in summer, electric under safe level to run A/C, only 105-110v, not in "green" zone to safely run your A/C)

Hope this helps someone decide.

Mary
